You looking to meet other Ad moms or just moms in general? Local Facebook groups are a great way to find moms in your area
I struggled with this super hard. I was the first of my friends to have a kid. I’m still struggling and maybe it’s because I just have a hard time making friends; it’s hard working full time, having a kid, and then trying to maintain a social life with current friends but trying to foster a new relationship can be even harder - who has the time?! But I found Facebook groups helped, check out your local “hike it baby” group if you’re into local meet ups, hiking or walking. And maybe try the local chapter of le leche league? But if you’re in New York, I’m happy to chat!
Thanks! I live in Westchester area and noticed lots of the meetup groups were Manhattan focused wasn’t sure if it’d be okay to join.
Also, someone tried messaging me on here and I mistakenly declined! I’m so sorry ☹️ try again??
Yes you can still join the Manhattan Facebook groups. They are great resources and also you’ll get practical advice, people giving away gear, etc. I remember being nervous about making mom friends because my best friends were not in the same life stage but I can truly say kids force you out of your comfort zone in a good way and are a great way to meet new people. It’s like an instant connection like I imagine dog owners feel. I look around and feel so supported by so many mom friends that are now best friends. I joined meetups and Facebook groups but also found friends in the baby aisle at the pharmacy trying to figure out diaper sizes. In nyc they have baby bites which many friends did with weekly get together for new moms and experts that talked about topics. Community centers, churches, synagogues etc also host lots of welcoming classes for new families. Or just sample some drop-in classes on weekends like a mommy and me class
The Peanut app helped me meet my best mom-friend who I hung out with on mat leave and beyond. It’s tinder for moms (literally, was developed by one of the original founders of tinder)
If you're in NY, defo join the mom groups. There are Facebook groups by neighborhood (and everyone joins UES Mommas, regardless of whether they live on the UES), and Mom Meetups organizes groups around due date, so you can find a cohort of moms with similarly aged kids (e.g. I'm in Winter Babies 2017). Bowery Babes is hosted on Big Tent, not FB, and it's an excellent resource for mom friends, advice, and buying stuff second hand. Women on BB are frequently organizing get-togethers by kid age or interest (e.g. working moms lunch). Finally, we've made friends at the park, storytime, and swim lessons. Not as much when mine was a newborn, obvs, so go online for that.
Congratulations Mama!
I found my mama friends through a hospital that had a breastfeeding support group and new mom support group - honestly could not get through it without these women.
While not in person there are dedicated month groups on Reddit that I found to be supportive leading up to birth. We’re pretty quiet now 15 months out, but it was amazing to have someone go through exactly what you were at the same time.
Try Peanut app
I am still trying to find mom friends in my area. It’s like dating all over again. I hate it.
Let me know what you find! I’m in the same boat
OP - I’m 22 weeks pregnant. FTM. I actually have a few friends expecting. It’s nice to have a community to vent with.
Thanks everyone! Not just Ad Moms, but Moms in general.
Bus Ops Mgr you’re so right. I’m the first of my friends and making friends as an adult is already a struggle lol. Just looking for a few fellow mamas to chat with, and to a few around my neighborhood to hopefully just meet with once in a while and have play dates.
Thanks guys, I’ll checkout the app! DOP hopefully we find a tribe around us soon.
Downloaded the Peanut app...it’s like dating! So nervous to swipe up/wave....what if they don’t wave back? What if you just don’t click? Eekkk!!!! Lol
