Median wages have barely crept up / stayed relatively flat compared to decades ago. There have been productivity gains for the average worker, so we’re producing more now than ever before at any point in human history, but those increases in production have yielded benefits / been accumulated by the top 1%, leading to an exacerbated inequality problem.
If there is someone just as qualified willing to do the work for less money, then why wouldn't supply be the issue?Would you pay more for services when someone is offering you the same service for less money?
Not many jobs you can start at 52k (high COL) as a staff 1 and 10 years later be at 200k. I have a different perspective than most I suspect - my starting offer was more than my parents current salaries combined. I was happy as a clam. :-)
D2 for real... and this person is not a CPA? Negates them from 10 years in tax or audit - must be consulting
Yeah one of my bosses started in 2012 and I started in 2017 and we both started at the exact same stating salary
I’m making 54000
Lol my starting salary was $49k in 2017.
Sounds simple. Econ 101, enough supply of people are willing work for this starting salary.
That's why most people come in and then leave. The only people making serious cash at big 4 are equity holders.
1st year staff here makes 52-55k. While it does seem low there is still a substantial amount of competition. Supply > Demand.
35k in 1994
I was still a twinkle in my mom’s eye
1987 inwas making 26k and it felt like a fortune
I’m making 20% less than your starting salary because... Canada.
My father started at 40k at a regional in 1990, and then he got OT on top. I got 50k and no OT at EY in 2014. (Vlcol area). Fortunately I’m out of that industry now...
$60K?? I started January 2019 at $52K.
I was $49k in 2016
Fed tax nhgw
I made 46k in 2006; low COL
Was a local firm in Tallahassee FL in 2006.
Started 2016 with $57k. MCOL. I didn't know what the Avg salary was at the time anyway when I started, I was just, yay FT career and $$$.
42k as an experienced hire senior in 1999
Correct - made more as a senior than as a manager when they got rid of it.
Audit/Tax are low margin, which is reflected in the compensation.
They pay you in experience. 🤣
I made 45k when i started.
Started at $53k in 2018 in Jacksonville
