When I was pregnant (especially in the beginning and towards the end) I ate smaller but more frequent meals. At the end the baby was pushing on my stomach and if I ate too much at once I would feel sick. Is she actually eating substantially less, or maybe just less at once and eating more often?
Okay just stop. Ask her to eat normal. If she wants to have frequent meals- okay. But eat if she is hungry. Do not do not starve urself. In order to avoid heavy pregnancy - you need to avoid all whites - bread, rice and sugar. Do not reduce the regular meals. I avoided whites mostly but had rice and something sweet very few times in a month. My weight was normal throughout. People who go crazy on whites, carbs and sugar, that’s a problem. Not healthy food.
It is normal to only have gained a few pounds at this point if she is of average weight. If she was sick during the first trimester, it is normal to have gained no weight or even lose weight.
I’m 30 weeks pregnant and it’s very difficult to eat a lot because I feel so bloated - this was going on in the beginning too.
I had only gained about 5 lbs total by 15 weeks.
Don’t worry unless the doctor says to worry!
Also to add, she is around 15 weeks pregnant and her weight has not changed much from pre pregnancy
So I replied before I saw your follow up. She should talk to her doctor about what she should eat. Some people don’t gain that much till later in the pregnancy. It just depends. She probably doesn’t need to eat substantially more than pre pregnancy, but she should be eating healthy, well balanced meals full of vegetables, protein and fruit. Avoiding processed sugar is a good idea because gestational diabetes can cause issues in baby sizing, but gd is many times genetic. Avoiding processed/added sugar is still a good idea though.
And starving is a problem.
