Question for remote workers: Do you strictly work from home or do you work remotely at different locations? I have always wondered what the expectation from employers is regarding this. I know it probable varies with each employer but I was wondering what the general rule of thumb is.

My firm has a WFA policy so we are allowed to work from anywhere with no restrictions.

Mostly from home as my entire office setup is here, making everything much easier. But have occasionally worked from other places on my laptop when necessary.

like

I mostly WFH but that is what I prefer. I have, at times, worked at family members houses. My employer doesn’t have a preference so long as the work is completed.

like

I generally always just work from my house, but do have the capabilities of working remotely as needed – for example, needing to take care of my nieces while my sister-in-law went to an appointment.

Much like LP1, I don’t think my employer really cares as long as the work gets done.

like

How would they know if you are working somewhere different than home, unless you tell them. You need to have reliable WiFi and good place to work. Keep your private life private.

At the firm I am at now it shows the IP address of where you’re logged in from and my last firm they could see where each laptop was since we were using the firms laptops.

What are your strategies for completing work efficiently? How do you figure out how long projects should take? A consistent piece of feedback on my yearly reviews has been that I over-bill & spend too much time on assignments. It’s something I actively work on, but I still have no concrete sense of how long I should spend on basic tasks (e.g., drafting a motion to dismiss). My firm is right to expect that I manage my time better as a mid-level associate. WFH has made my time management worse.

Hi everyone - I made it to the final round of interviews with Amazon for a Program Manager position. They initially asked if I would relocate and at the time I said yes - however, due to my husband’s new job I’m no longer able to relocate.
Has anyone ever negotiated to work remote for Amazon?

it feels like every survey about working from home is (poorly) designed to answer the useless question "would you rather work from home or from the office." I submit that the set of people who prefers to have only one of those two options, always and forever, is the null set. which means it DOES NOT MATTER because the correct answer is always going to be "make both possible." you're welcome, HR departments everywhere.

Interview tomorrow for a tax associate opening at RSM. Been working in a mid-size city (different firm) that is about 70 minutes from this new home office in a larger metro. How flexible is WFH or dual model going forward post Covid? Am interested in this position and going to tax, but not be able to relocate for family reasons. Don’t want to drive 700 miles per week M-F. What will dual model be like going forward? 1-2 times week, 4-5 month? Seems like tax was more flexible than audit pre-Covid

I did it! I got an in-house Paralegal position after years of working and being burned out at different law firms. I was going to leave the legal field all together because I was so burned out and depressed, but I decided to give the field one more chance if I was able to go in-house. Prayerfully, this transition will be a good one.

I started working for a new law firm, much larger than the firm I was working for previously. The main attorney that I work under had noticed some mistakes I was making (I am a NY paralegal who took this position with the understanding that they’d be teaching me NJ and NYC real estate). Anyways, the attorney decided to tell the HR manager about the mistakes I had been making. Rather than HR discussing with me, the manager told my dramatic coworker to tell me..how should I handle this? Very hurt!
