^3 ratings are not solid ratings. There's "grade inflation" at Deloitte so getting all 2's on a project might get you a 3 at year end but all 3's on a project might get you a 4.
You need to figure out why you're getting a 3 on your projects, 2's are what is expected.
^ Half of my class got 2's on their first project. There's absolutely no reason why people can't get 2's on their first project.
D1 this seems true for S&O but does that apply to HC and Tech. My understanding is that tech is a bit more harsh
@D1 talked to my counsellor and a couple ppds about 3 ratings, they told me that's what's expected as a new hire on your first year. Also, my first project (out of 2 in total) gave me a 3 bc 'it was my first project, and wouldn't make sense to get a 2', which I've heard is a trend. Comments?
Guys below manager you have to get a 2 on your projects. On large scale engagements sometimes team leads end up with 3s because it's just how it works but if you are someone actively doing work and deliverables you have to get that 2. 3s do not cut it anymore. God knows how it is going to work with the new system.
Actually, I believe the "you get a 3 on your first project" thing is true. I've been at the firm for 2.5 years and gotten a 2 on every single project except for my first one. The SC doing my primary review literally said "you're going to get a 3 because that's what everyone gets on their first project". I've seen that scenario play out on many of my projects since then
^ before people point this out, I know that not all reviewers feel this way and that some do give 2s on a first project. But if you're on a large project that rates on a curve, it's definitely a go-to to give the new people the 3's
The curve might be slightly different for Tech, but Deloitte has a bell curve ranking. If the highest project rating is a 2 and the highest YE rating is a 1, the people with a mix of 2/3 might be pushed to a 2/3 for YE, but the people with straight 3's will be pushed to a low 3 or high 4.
If you want to give someone a 4 on a project you need to document every single wrong action they did. 4s on project PEs are very rare and 5 is never given.
I see. So, I guess my time's up.
Surprised u haven't already been cut....
Just asking, does anybody ever get a 1? Or is the for the "holy baby Jesus you're so fine one of a kind rare Charizard" rating?
I agree with M1. If the review period is less than a month for your first project, a 3 makes sense. I'd be a bit more optimistic purely based on the fact that the new hires aren't usually flagged badly. And A1, people get 1s. I've received it - had to do a lot of networking and pursuits. The total value difference between a 1 & a 2 is not worth the effort it took
D5 - that's sad. What's was your utilization?
To all above - I agree I'm a new hire ~ 6months and I have heard the "first project doesn't get you a 2" but again there are some that do get it. I was on project where I knew there was no way in hell that leadership was giving me a 2. To back that up, my counselor who is great and well respected in the office also did say your story is easy, you're a new hire and you will more than likely get a 3. It's true 6 months in you're still figuring things out - firm initiatives and all. I came in as an EH from consulting.
@OP I started as an analyst out of undergrad and got straight 2s on my PEs and a 1 at year end my first year. Up for manager this year. Green light was today but haven't had my convo yet
