Outlook good, compensation in line with fishbowl survey, work quality varies by partner - some sell really cool stuff and some sell... PMO crap.

Pipeline varies over time; right now fully sold out associate thru manager. (Managers seem to always be sold out!). Staffing opportunities seem to depend on your location - best to be in a major office like NYC, Chicago or Atlanta. People in smaller offices tend to be "picked last" so to speak, since you're less well known etc.

like

@OP, you don't align to industry until manager so in theory easy to change focus. In practice though given your experience you'll be first pick on FS type projects (of which there are many) and so getting staffed on consumer or TMT will take a lot of effort and some luck, unless you make that a clear requirement in your application process.

like

No problem. Good info to start research, thanks!

like

Is it easy to get staffed and is there a good pipeline?

Thanks K1, I'm in NYC. I'm extremely interested in Consumer products or TMT but come from a 'professional' background in FS. As this role resides in FS Strategy, how difficult is it to work across industries?

Hi K1, do you all have tech strategy positions or on implementation specific groups?

@DC1 - yes but I think they sit outside what we call strategy, probably in our IT / digital groups within Advisory but I don't know much about them.. sorry

I have a few questions for people in consulting roles (both external/internal).

My partner is in corporate banking, but he wants to switch to a consulting/strategy-based role. I noticed people with those jobs typically have an MBA, and also majority of the job ads in similar roles has MBA as either a requirement or preferred qualification. So:

1) does MBA actually improve someone's chance in getting those roles?
2) are there any good Canadian MBA programs you'd recommend?

Thank you all!

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.
