Some good news after almost 11 months of applying and interviews and lots of rejections finally got an offer! In NYC small firm, ex big law folks, no billable hours, niche practice area, appearance of forwarded thinking firm, remote till who knows when, emphasis on pro bono initiatives and building book of business. The catch salary. Was making around 140k at last firm with 1800 billable. Offer is 85k and revist to bump to around 100k in several months after review (plus discretionary bonus)

Pay seems low but life’s too short to be miserable. Give it a shot.

Give it a shot. Making any money is better than making no money at all.

Yup, soak it all up and learn! Try and get a small signing bonus and get the “do x, get y in z months” as part of the offer letter.

like

It seems very low for NYC but if you’ve been looking for 11 months then take it for sure.

Yeah my thought too but apparently for small firms that is the norm saw a post on a fb lawyer group and was pretty suprised. Such a huge discrepancy between large, midsize and small firm payscales.

Damn, my assistant makes $150K. That’s rough.

Cont. Seems like a place I could learn at ( practicing for close to 4 years in similar area). Am I fool for taking such a steep cut, given covid?

No. Go for it! If the work culture is great and you enjoy your job, than it was worth it. Plus, as you said, you are not married to the job, you can always find something else should it not be the perfect fit. Good luck!

I’ve had several great interviews with a few diff companies. Or rather, I thought they went well but then I get the dreaded “thanks but we made the difficult decision to move forward with other candidates”. I’ve asked for feedback but so far have gotten none.

I know it’s competitive out there, but I also don’t know how I can either position myself better, seek positions that are more aligned with my expertise/experience, or work on improving certain areas.

Any advice on how to proceed?

I was part of Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd.
The HR relationship manager was Deepa Vishwanathan. I resigned in May two years back and last working day was in Aug after serving three months notice.
However, due to error on human resource part they updated record as last working date in May. So whenever I was applying for any position there was mismatch in last working day mentioned in my resume and in human resource records with Kotak. Does it have impact on my profile not getting shortlisted?

Anyone interested in a referral bonus 😬? I’m looking to transfer to LA this upcoming May! DM me!

Interviewed for a senior strategist role and as we were griping about how clients can be, I said “oh yeah well the dream job is to never work with clients again right?!” And the recruiter just got back to me that “the role requires client interaction so that’s a dealbreaker”. I feel so dumb for getting comfortable during an interview to joke like that.
