Speaking of burnout, I’ve been exhausted lately. My workload is busy, RTO is proving to be difficult and I have a family to look after. Have you ever been so burnt out that forming sentences, listening and paying attention to things is nearly impossible? Not like you are sleepy, but totally exhausted. Trying to figure out if this is common, or if I need take some more drastic measures. I’ve needed to take LOAs before and I don’t want to again, but wondering if this is a warning sign.

How many billable hours per week is considered at capacity? I’m getting pushback on boundaries I’m setting about additional matters and marketing work from my firm when I’ve been billing 60-75 hours per week for the last 6 weeks, and I’m still behind on my work. I feel like it’s reasonable to not kill myself further to fit in more/turn things around faster at this point, but am I being unreasonable? I expect my workload to remain at this level through the end of the year at least.

Is your firm treating 12/26 and 12/27 as firm holiday since the 24th and the 25th are during the weekend this year? Of course client demands would dictate whether people will be working, but curious what the official policy is. For what it’s worth, my firm treated the day after thanksgiving as holiday and I didn’t have to work for the whole day.

I’m recently finished my PhD and the transition to full time work has been overwhelming. How was the transition for you?

Has anyone else noticed they’re stressed without “feeling” stressed? I don’t feel as stressed as when I was in college. However, I’m still on the job hunt and I think stress is manifesting itself without me realizing it. My skin is showing really bad acne, I feel unmotivated even to fill out job applications; I’m having trouble falling asleep at night and even though I sleep past noon sometimes I still feel tired during the day... Today is one of those days, and even when I know things will get better or "this too shall pass", I am sad, I can't enjoy whatever good there is...I feel powerless.

My last therapist keeps coming up in my mind. I left her when I moved to a new area before COVID dug in and frankly it felt like leaving a girlfriend. She also disclosed in the final session that she was a member of AA and knew several of the people I occasionally discussed from the rooms. Her knowledge of the program certainly built trust with me early on, but it has been two years. I discussed it with my current therapist but she’s still in there. Any advice?
