My brother pays $60k/yr for an in home nanny that comes 3 days/wk.
For the kids, yes. Not for them though.
Enough that we went from a 2 career family to a 1 career family and came out ahead financially after tax considerations. First few years are tough but gets easier when they hit elementary.
If I were to have done this over again, would have gone au pair. Between part time nannies, Spilt Milk (a service with vetted babybsitters), we probably could have optimized and reduced costs somewhat.
I was thinking Au Pair, but it seemed more expensive after taking into account room and board, stipend, consumables, plus proving full access to your car and increased liability risk related to doing so.
We are paying around $80,000 a year for a full time nanny. Five days a week plus occasionally a few hours over the weekend.
We will eventually move to an au pair but I think that starts to work out once the child is approx 2.5 years old.
Childcare is insanely expensive in the Seattle area.
