OK gonna maybe open a can of worms here but I have to ask: it seems the sudden inflation we're seeing has taken the ins. ind. by surprise. The cost/expense projections done X yrs. ago for this and poss'y subsequent yrs. have been thrown off. Costs to repair/replace cars have shot up unexpectedly. Same for houses. Med costs have all gone up. Ins. cos. have relatively thin profit margins to begin with. There's talk of cost-cutting measures-- incl. layoffs. How realistic are these concerns?
Any copywriters thinking of shifting into account/brand management? Or considering an MBA? I got laid off and can’t move to a bigger market so just thinking of pivoting.
Any layoffs in tax tech ?
Laid off recently with just under 5 years experience in copy — already feeling a little disheartened by the experience. Seems that even when a lay off isn’t performance-based, it still feels like 💩
Laid off after Thanksgiving. 54. Not done yet. Plenty to offer. In Detroit but ready and able to move anywhere. AD/CD. Hangin in there. How bout you?
Need advice: My firm just fired my whole team (said it’s becoming a conflict of interest buyside vs sellside). After the meeting, I was offered to stay at the firm and move to sellside, or I was also offered to follow my MD (who built out this sector) as he starts his own business (non compete waived, clients to be transferred). Interested to hear people’s thoughts on this.
During the panny, my agency moved a handful of us to a different office with no choice. Basically said we’d be fired if we didn’t comply. When we asked if we would ever have to move to the new city, we were given no answers for months. Now, they’re saying back to office in September and I have a feeling they’ll be expecting us to move. Should I ask for money to move? I personally can’t afford to and told them from the start I can’t move. Also, I really don’t want to leave my S/O. Help!
How will the Covid crisis affect Indian IT industry? In the short term, I think there will be job cuts but after that, outsourcing will increase since companies don't need people at office to do work
With so many layoffs and the strange uncertainty of this industry right now—is anyone scared to death?
Any consulting firms started layoffs / hiring freezes etc? I feel the consulting firms are a bit quiet compared to tech firms right now - which makes me worry about my accepted offer to be rescinded lol
Cooley sounds like a good firm? Standing up to Elon Musk when he wanted a associate fired
Hi all! I’m a from R/GA NY who recently got laid off. If y’all know of any open strategist positions or anything equivalent(ish) on the client side pls send my way!
In January I left my job in what I thought was a toxic workplace after almost 8 years with the company. 3 months into my new job I was furloughed which eventually turned into a layoff. Now I’m back and my old job bc they miss me dearly and finding a new job during COVID hasn’t given me any worthwhile options. I guess sometimes it takes a pandemic to give you some perspective 🤷🏽♀️
Why are so many agencies struggling right now and doing layoffs? Is this normal or are more brands going in house or what?
I got laid off in April, and I’ve been doing ok, but starting to crack. Feel like I’m becoming super irrelevant and like my life isn’t moving forward. A lot of anxiety the last couple days, followed by exhaustion.
Well fuck. I got laid off. Just when you think you’re in the clear, 2020 brings the pain. Guess it’s true that the big title comes with a big target.
Anyone else automatically assume you’re getting fired after you get locked out of your email account? I swear this only happens to me on Friday mornings when I’ve recently changed my login credentials 🤯😤
Anyone know what IPGs severance policy is?
Top top post!
Post for push testing
Nice! The post animation looks good!
Is there a difference between 250k salary and 400k salary? Both salaries are watching spiderman on opening night. Both salaries have food on the table and a roof over their heads. One has a 65in tv vs the other has 75in. One drives a BMW the other a Tesla. I make around 250k and to increase my salary I will have to work a lot more. Is it really worth having more money, at some point it is just a number and quality of life doesn't improve. In fact it could be worse with the extra hours.
I’m hearing that a recession is undoubtedly going to happen. Will we be impacted as Consultants and if so, to what extent?
Am I stupid if I make 50k and try and purchase a 85k Porsche. I can easily afford it on a 5 or 6yr financing/month, since my rent and CoL is low. But I am skeptical and feel like it is not the smartest decision. I only like 3 things outside of work: Cars, Watches and Football.
Soooo at today's morning status meeting our shitty SM was absolutely railing a consultant. Consultant stands up and says, "Fuck you. You're an asshole. I'm done here." And walks out. 😳...👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
What's the most absurd thing an analyst has done on your teams? Looking for some laughs.
Just saw how much my bonus will get taxed and it left me speechless. We’re getting this back during tax filing season right? Please
Saw a ~25 yo friend getting engaged to a 50+ yo. Interested to see the split on “love is love” vs “eww” here. Happy Monday y’all!
McKinsey = HBS (old, prestigious), BCG = Stanford (close up there, and closing in), Bain = Wharton (same conversation, but a teeny bit lower), Deloitte = Booth (rising in the rankings, but no one...
Surprise Surprise Richboy is in trouble https://nypost.com/2022/05/19/elon-musk-accused-of-exposing-himself-to-private-flight-attendant-report/
How do I manage very green and very entitled analysts? I have a couple fresh out of undergrad, who firmly believe they deserve to be in all client interactions because it's "great learning experience"
What's the most common lie we hear from partners?
Why Bain? Why BCG? Why McKinsey? What makes these firms different? To me it looks like it’s mainly the culture of the companies that varies - am I correct?
The Big 4 walk into a bar. McKinsey, Bain, and BCG arrived a few minutes earlier and are ordering drinks. The other firms are already there too, in various stages of intoxication. What happens next? Who does what? Bonus points: which firm is the jaded, apathetic bartender?
Hot take: I think private schools in k-12 should not exist. Maybe you don’t ban them but highly disincentivize them. I think they massively contribute to all of our inequalities, including racial ones. Btw, been listening to podcast ‘Nice White Parents’ and I recommend!!
Lets be real consultants for this problem. Its a real problem. How can we prevent pandemic’s like this happening again in near or far future?
