Not a parent, but personally attended both.
The education I got from public school - curriculum and worldview - was more meaningful and realistic than private, where everything’s financially driven.
Kids in public school were more grounded, community-oriented and have grown up to be mostly well-adjusted contributors to society. More of my private school classmates have still never had or held a job in their lives.
My cohort were equally accepted and rejected from their first-choice programs, though only the private school boosted 100% admission (these are false claims, I promise). My private school classmates struggled much more with the transition from a private high school to university than those in public, both academically and socially.
If you’re wealthy enough to support your child, financially indefinitely, they may enjoy private. Otherwise, you risk sending them to a school where they’re not on the same level as their peers who can rely on family wealth to navigate the inherently different l problems well-to-do children are faced with.
Feel free to DM if you’re looking for more insight.
If you can send your kid to a top rated public school in the GTA it is much better than sending them to a private school as the money you save will pay off your kids' university education and being debt free will be a huge advantage for their future. If you are not in a good school district, then private school may be a better option.
Another variable to consider: I travelled across the city to attend a private high school. It made it much harder to be friends with my classmates outside of school on weekends and during the summer because they all lived in different parts of the city. It’s much better socially for most kids if they go to a school near their home, public or private.
All the doctors I know went to public schools — it’s the driver, not the car
Your sentences aren’t even correct, complete, or making sense… is that because of private schools
Private schools are a business. Their number 1 goal is to make money. They will do anything to attract and keep customers (parents), sell the perception of a top-notch education, and tell parents and kids what they want to hear. Sometimes the truth hurts, but if it helps a child have a more productive and fulfilling life down the road, it’s worth it. I had my kids both in the public system and they are now thriving as young adults. Public schools are good in Ontario.
