You want to have kids. Really the only reason. Unless you run a farm then free labor is another good one.
You need somebody to play catch with? Turn off the tv.
?
The only good reason is because you want them and are committed to two decades of caring and guiding them into being a functional part of society.
I’ve never wanted kids. I can give you dozen of reasons why, but the bottom line is I don’t want them so I’m not going to have them.
Team no kids!
What are the reasons for not having kids these days? Also what time period in the history was great for having kids according to you?
OP - Since you work at PwC, I think you earn good amount of money and do not have to worry about most of the reasons you stated. Things like gun violence and climate change are really out of our control. I don’t think it’ll be right to let the factors like those dictate our lives.
If “life is tough” is your overall reasoning for not wanting kids then let me remind you that life was never easy for humans in any period of history. Perhaps we are one of the very few privileged people in the history who have loads of comforts and conveniences available to us.
You have a child when you are 100% committed to wanting a child. Not because you should or are supposed to or are expected to. Sure the current environment sux but as K1 said you can find issues all through history to make it seem it’s a bad time. Politics environment costs change. Sure we don’t know which way but if you truly want a child you hope for positive changes in the future and not let that stop you. If you choose not to that is your decision and don’t let others influence you.
Because raising children is the deepest love and joy you will ever experience, but only if you’re able to give up some of the things about you that are selfish and put them on hold. It’s amazing to watch them grow and learn and over time contribute things to other people and society. Watching kids learn about the world is amazing, you see your own life in a new light. You see the world in a new light. It’s just wonderful.
I mean... for some? 1 in 4 Americans are estranged from their families. 600,000+ kids are abused each year in the US.
Please don’t have kids if you don’t want them. We already have too many such kids / adults on this planet and it’s toxic. Also don’t count on any SS or other government benefits as these count on everyone having 2.2 kids
