My career turned a corner when I realized that being likeable is more important than being great at your job. The caveat to that is sales. If you can sell you can be absolute trash as a coworker and you’ll still get by because you’re bringing in the cash.
sales is not a team effort anyway right?
unless if someone wants to be a sales manager
You've got 2 options, and I've used both of them in my career:
1) Convince yourself that they have a disability. Seriously. In my mind I decided to treat a person similar to how you described as essentially having a speech impediment. Instead of a lisp, their impediment is that they sound like an asshole. It was a good coping mechanism for me until I found something better which brings me to point 2...
2) GTFO. Don't let it build up. You heard of quiet quitting? Yeah... mine built-up and I wasn't quiet.
I LOUD quit during an all hands meeting!
Do I regret it? Yes
Would I do it again...? Also Yes
I regret that I hadn't planned my exit. That just happened to be the day the last straw fell.
FWIW it was about false blame on one of my direct reports. I (and most Vets) can take almost anything if you're just giving me shit. F with my people and I'll burn this place down.
I say most vets bc think about how we raised to protect Doc in combat. God help the dumb MFer that hurts doc.
Don't let it come to that. Make a plan. Focus on your networks. Revise your resume and start looking ASAP.
That’s like me.. I won’t be loud though.. I will protect my direct reports. I tend to be the martyr for anything that goes against the grain. Right now it’s going against those with most seniority.
Best thing to do is leave. And be blunt with them why you are leaving.

A bad manager can ruin so much! I’m so sorry you are dealing that that. Are you Union?
No, I’m not apart of a union.
I agree with DFS1. I would also like to add the following. If things are too bad get a few consultation with a labor lawyer. There could be something you don't see happening in the shadows. I had to do that and my manager backed off for a couple of months. 2nd of your HR trip isn't helping go over their head. And keep going up till someone listens. While you're doing this start looking. And when you leave ask for an exit interview with HR (the one who listened) and your manager. When and if it happens being receipts to show examples.
But you really need to get out. It could start to weigh heavy on mental health.
