Was in almost $300k in debt from student loans and cars. Had a negative NW. Followed Dave Ramsey plan and paid it off in 2 years. 3 years later, we have a positive 7 figure NW and still grinding.

I bounced a check for a $1.80 slice of pizza and ended up paying $80 in fees. I also once ran out of a grocery store when I realized my debit card couldn’t cover the bill. Now, 20 years and many raises later, I’m finally putting a meaningful amount toward savings and retirement. Feels good.

Was making minimun wage, couldn’t afford to live by myself. After 2 decades finally making good money. Took lot of grit and perseverance

Started career as a commissioned loan officer right after the housing crash. Was living off credit cards and eating cheap raman and gas station hot dogs.
Had to cut expenses to the bone for years and move down in life style... stop over buying on cars, and downsize housing, etc.

This is gonna sound stupid, but I’m honest - I can’t do math. Calculating a tip is as advanced as I get. Thank god for excel formulas and a math savvy husband. At the end of the day, I pay all the bills (I know- but I’m more organized) and make double his salary, what low stress effort (on my limited math capacity brain) can I do to increase wealth?

I feel like I should be doing more with extra money to help us financially, but I’m scared of having to study stocks and understand the numbers. 😖

My boyfriend and I make 200K combined and live in NJ. We have $1000 in monthly car payments combined. That’s all we owe. Our credit scores are in the 800s. We have 50K to put down on a home. We have done the math and I know we can afford much more but he doesn’t want to buy more than a 400K home. I’m almost positive we can afford 500K and be more than ok. But then he starts to talk about how much kids cost and how we will be house poor and we won’t be able to afford kids. 🤔 Am I insane??

Seeking feedback on GAP insurance. I had a family member who purchased a car in June or July. They were in an accident last week and it sounds like the car will be declared a total loss. Never dealt with this before, so wanted to ask if anyone has ever had an instance where the insurance didn't cover the outstanding balance of the loan and the insured then owed money? Car was $35k, $7k down, finance $28k. Gap insurance is through lender, not auto insurer.

I'm not seeing many options for her besides to continue pmts, fixing just enough to drive or voluntary repo. Thoughts?
