Many leave or go client-side after being pushed out of agencies. Ageism is alive and well.
The holding companies are calling the shots. To your point, get out before you’re early 40’s.
My client just offered me a job that pays 50k more per year and offers equity, stock, and bonuses on top of that. I suspect many people eventually take that bait.
I’ll tell you once I decide if I’m accepting it or not, haha
Either the move into C-suite or go to the client side. This is what I've seen happen

A lot of the time more senior people will get offers for much more from the clients in smaller venues. Less stress, better pay, more time for family and life

Ageism. Most have been pushed out, unless they're the few, politically-adept operators
By 40 you are tired of the BS and level of disrespect for the amount of money. I might not make it through the year without angry-quitting!
I am here!!! And I completely want back in . The BS that occurred in that industry, was/ is better than the BS and politics around other industries.
I've met people who wonder if they were simply "retired" after a round of layoffs
