I was in supply chain went to consulting. Came back to supply chain. Consulting was a big career accelerator. Supply chain leaders make good money in f500 companies. To move up try and get a broad experience early.
Typically you’ll start as an expeditor or operational buyer. Over time move to commodity management and strategic sourcing. Then you move up to mgmt.
Entry level, probs consulting
Probs was a shortened version of probably. But any type of procurement, supply chains operations consulting would be where I’d look if I were you
definitely consulting. if you join big 4 for analyst roles, you can definitely get 80-90k depending on experience. it's tougher to get in if it's not directly after graduating and you have to really sell yourself if you want to come in at the level you want. I worked in industry for about 5 years, played my cards right and got in as a senior consultant. this may be my opinion and personal experiences, but jump to manager level within supply chain is really difficult and that's where your salary really start. getting to manager internally means luck skill and right timing when there is an open position. externally is really difficult when you do not have "manager" in your title. all that is IMO from my experiences.
qualifications to break through to higher pay: imo there are none, and it's all about selling yourself. having apics certs and masters degrees can help paint the story of why you are qualified for something, but are not the end all be all. it just helps sell yourself.
Well having a degree in business administration, supply chain management or a related field would most definitely put you at a head of the competition. Negotiation and communication skills would come in handy here.
