Spending power. If you have one car and max it out your credit score will shit the bed. Also, some people really enjoy the points game
There are several reasons. Racking up multiple sign-up bonuses, having more partner options for point redemption, and earning more points. Different cards have different bonus categories.
AMEX - all recurring and chargeable expenses consolidated
MasterCard - Linked to my consolidated income account (checking) where ALL income first passes through, and is a back-up line of credit for any cash flow shortages
Diners - Because KPMG has to be weird
OP, keeping a credit card is typically the best approach as it increases your available credit as well as avg length of credit. However, charge cards require a fee and therefore, are valuable when you use them.
Not sure why you would have a corporate card unless it was for ACN.
1. If it's your ACN card, get a personal Amex and link the rewards points.
2. If it's your personal card, call Amex and explain that the personal card is a better fit and see if they'll switch you. If not, cancel and get a personal card and chalk it up as a learning experience and move on. 👍🏼
Amex for all my personal spending. Visa for when places inevitably don't take Amex.
I have 23 cards, but only 1 for my daily use. Others for welcome bonuses and perks.
Closing cards generally lowers your score. And no, you shouldn't cancel your corporate card.
Points and or credit score game. The way FICO is setup it encourages bad behaviors for people with above average incomes.
Promos, sign on bonus, different earnings on different purchases
I have the AMEX corporate card and I haven't used it cause I realized only after starting that it's useless when it comes to rewards and credit. If I cancel it will it, will my score go down?
KPMG2, how do you link points? Never heard of this before
D2, my understanding is that all AMEX accounts in your name can/do have points consolidated. When you log into your account, all of your cards should be listed, and all points consolidated.
I have the chase sapphire card so I don't really plan to use the ACN AMEX corp card
This is all great info guys, I really appreciate the help!
AmEx - work expenses and access to Sky Club
MC1 - bank debit
MC 2 - former Diners Club which ACN originally issued, kept for primary rental car insurance, length of relationship and points (-400K)
MC 3 - store card, gives cash back, use primarily for charitable donations to make it easy to separate them from normal spending and keep regular activity
Visa - also store card, offers store gift cards, don't shop there anymore but need the Visa for Costco large purchases
OP, not sure how you guys role, but we are required to use our corporate card for flights and hotels, and any purchase we expense.
We can use our own cards for work purchases if expensing per diem instead of actuals however, which is what I do.
Some like to consolidate all "work" related expenses to their corporate card tho, and separate their spending that way.
My first credit card was Discover. Not everywhere takes Discover so I also got a Chase Visa. I also have a Target store credit card since I shop there a lot and it gives me 5% off
Chase Sapphire Reserve ftw
