Why does consulting attract so many socially awkward people?

Does anyone else have that one person who is more senior than you that is just always so condescending while adding no value themselves? I have a director who I work with (not in my direct mgmt line) that just treats everyone on my team so poorly, so I act as the shield and it’s so annoying how someone who is so disrespectful and honestly not super value-added only ask for data/questions and not provide any genuine input or recommendations.

My boss in my creative agency threatened to fire me because I, a male, came into work with my nails painted. HR is having a very complicated day today as I found out I could take legal action if he does fire me since we don't have an established dress code that has any guidelines against male nail polish wearing.

My boss (atty) is so disorganized! I’ve been with him 6 months and he’s having a hard time delegating, sharing info and managing deadlines. I’ve organized the caseload to manage the deadlines. He says he wants me to help with discovery but when I offer to start on one, he says he needs to do it. (Since he might have to present as evidence) When I give him deadlines and ask for the docs he says he’ll get to it. It’s a small 1 man firm, and I’m the first assistant besides his wife. Any advice?

I think I’m about to get my first experience of getting in trouble with a partner for work that I actually already sent for review and followed up on multiple times (and brought up during calls). Stay tuned… 😑

How to handle working with someone who frustrates you immensely? I work with someone who is one level above me hierarchically and is an ultimate micromanager (not one agenda or recap can be without edits) and is rude about establishing that they have dominance. I just finished a big jury trial with a senior partner (SP). There were co-parties w/separate counsel. SP mentally checked out, to the point that co-counsel was asking what SP was doing/if SP was okay. I ended up handling most everything. SP did a few parts but went rogue and did things that were offensive/risky/bad for client. It became clear that SP is not performing like SP used to and may be a liability. Do I tell someone at my firm? Don’t want to offend SP or cause drama, but I’m concerned.
