Stop throwing rocks from your ivory tower. It's easy for you to say that when we all know you're making more than most people on here
Everyone only asks that question on here 10x a day for an ego boost. For everyone saying "i want to make sure I'm paid fairly" please go to your supervisor and say "I asked a bunch of ppl on this anonymous consulting app and they said they make a lot more money than me I don't think I'm paid fairly" and let me know how that goes for you
KPMG2 - read the thread before commenting... Because it is pretty clear I agree with you
☝🏽️
My opinion of "fair" is based on what I think my value of time is worth. I'm not really motivated by benchmarking off of other people's salaries. At the end of the day I say "I made $XXX today... Is that worth the effort I put in?"
That doesn't quantify what you're worth. Lol I'm unsubscribing to this post. You're ridiculous.
Thanks for being real Accenture
@EY1: I'm not saying anyone should make irrational life or business choices. I'm just asking about what good comes from the culture of constant comparison we've created.
In fact, to a point you alluded to, I think being savvy is perhaps more controllable than your salary - so why not obsess over opportunities here instead?
I think OP has a valid point. It all depends on whether you feel you are being paid fairly for the market for your skills and industry and for the goals you want to meet. I have done compensation work (outside of consulting) and everyone compares salaries if they can. However it does seem more strident in consulting and I think that is because there are usually more type "A" personalities.
I'm with you, OP
EY sorry I triggered your insecurities :( No ivory tower here. Don't want your Rolex. Simply saying I have answered the question in the past for my own ego. For actual evaluation of my salary compared to the market, I look at other sources - not fishbowl, as I would recommend you do
This post is stupid. People don't ask what others make randomly. Paid fairly implies what my peers in my OWN firm are making. If I find out I'm being underpaid compared to my peers I'll leave, not go to my supervisor and quote this app. Also, if I'm thinking of switching firms, asking others gives me an idea of what to expect before going through the whole interview process. OP has some messed up logic about being "satisfied", well you're satisfactions are diff than mine and please first understand why people benchmark in the first place. We all know who makes more than us, point is to compare to peers. How did u get into Bain? Lol
All this talk of retiring early or giving money away is cute until you have a family depending on you. That's where my money goes. That's where I want my money to go. And that's why I want to get as much money as I fairly can
OP, how much are you saving for retirement at 45? I need life goals :-)
Anyone can retire y
Anyone can retire early in life. It's all about choices.
My bad OP, I'm drunk and stuck onsite until tomorrow. 😘
Yea I'm drunk. But the belittling part still wasn't cool
Tbh the post is from somebody who works at BCG - I wouldn't be caring about anyones pay either
Stop comparing A1 - don't you get it? Stop worrying about what others make relative to you. Add value and you will be compensated. OP doesn't get to financial independence buying Rolexs - OP saves and saves and saves. You sound like a petulant child - I bet you were the one in class who asked what everyone got on their exam or final grade.
Knowledge is power. If you know what the market rate is it helps you make rational decisions on what opportunities to pursue.
While I'd love to debate this further and convince u, I'm going to refrain from doing so coz it's Friday night. I think we will have to agree to completely disagree. Peace
