The guidance that has been given is that if you saved your PTO in 2020 with the expectation that you would use it to prolong your 16 week maternity leave in 2021 the firm would respect this in 2021 even if the PTO was above the 3 week amount. I would talk to your HR and let them know that was your intent. It should still not count against what you had locked in as your PTO accrued amount as of 12/31/2020.
I’m on leave right now and you could tack on the 3 weeks to your maternity leave. They didn’t tell me I couldn’t take additional vacation when I get back and I plan to for the holidays

Wow so technically unlimited PTO = 3 weeks PTO 🤦♀️
@OP based on you using 5 weeks as the unlimited pto amount, by full pto I mean remaining 2 weeks left after stacking 3 weeks on to maternity leave
You can only use 3 weeks of PTO when lumping it up with 16 weeks of maternity in 2021. Any additional PTO is unpaid as per guidance.
This is correct

What if I moved to EY after 2020 and don't have any accrued pto?
They reduced the number of weeks you can add onto maternity leave. Not sure about the exact number as my laptop is turned off. But they did reduce it by few weeks and people complain about it when we started unlimited.
As far as I know yes but they might say something if it's is stacked on eachother.
I have not been at EY long so maybe I'm not the best person to ask. I have one person on my team recently that took maternity leave but actually came back early.
I know two people doing this. One had a baby in March and will be back in September. The other is due in a month and will be back in 2022.
That I do not know. I would ask HR and hopefully they are reasonable.

Thanks everyone for the information!
My counselor told me you could take more than the 3 weeks added on, but it had to be approved by regional leadership or something. So you can get it, just have to go high enough up for approval
While it's "unlimited", I would caution against taking the 16 weeks leave and then still taking 5 weeks of vacation, especially newly transferring to the firm. Unless you really don't care about long term potential here. Gonna rub a lot of people the wrong way to take almost half the year off right after a transfer.
100% on board with you. The maternity leave policy here is one of the biggest benefits and I will be using every day I can get when it's my time (granted I'm 28 already and still single so who knows if I'll still be here 😂). Just something to consider for anyone transferring to any job anywhere and then immediately taking a leave of absence.
I was told when I was planning time off for a family death that 3 weeks in a row is the max PTO you can take before you need to discuss it being a leave of absence or something more permanent. Not sure if it's different for different situations
They told me no more than 3 weeks of vacation can be added to leave.
