Having all the stock broker license, masters in finance, would a CFP certification benefit my overall worth? I am looking for a salary much higher than where I am now, $111,000-$145,000. Do you think this additional certification is the best path to a increase in salary?

What’s a competitive TC for someone with 30 years experience in trust administration and personal financial planning, have CFP, CPWA and AEP designation. Typically top 20% performer.

Has anyone worked on a CFP after doing CPA? What do you think pros and cons are? I am heavily considering this since I work in a more consulting and bookkeeping area of accounting and could easily take my work in that direction.

Anyone in the NYC or Jersey area looking for a succession plan for their book? CFP, ChFC and MBA with 10 years experience as an Advisor within the banking channel. Currently managing roughly $100 Million. Most of it is not portable and a lot of it is dead money inherited from other advisors.

Currently an Associate Consultant working for a consultant in Ontario Canada. Curious if anyone has moved to the US from Canada or any other country and what the process was like. I have an MBA and will have CFP within 2 years. Is it realistic to look or find head hunters in targeted American cities?

I’m currently a consultant analyst but I’m studying for my CFP to become a financial planner . I have been accepted into Texas Tech’s graduate program for financial planning . Is going for a masters in this field worth it ? I’m on track to make six figures in the next two years and I am not interested in taking a pay cut while transitioning into financial planning . Are my expectations realistic in terms of making six figures with the CFP completed and masters degree ?

Coming up on 5 years as a phone-based advisor and trying to decide what to do from here. Money is good in my current role but i don’t have a book, same conversation over and over with no real end game. I love the idea of starting an RIA some day but obviously that would be easier with a substantial book. I am planning to sit for the CFP exam in March and make a move shortly after. I’m considering going to a new firm to build a book with the long term goal of trying to bring those clients with me

Anyone know of firms with the Los Angeles area that help you and encourage you to attain the CFP? I’m finding it hard finding local firms that have career trajectory from Client Servicing to full Advisory work.

I’m willing to pay for self study and take local classes but would love and appreciate sponsorship.

Any advice in general for making the jump from more client servicing to advisory would be greatly appreciated.

Ideally I’d love to make my way towards either an Advisor or Strategist.

CFP study programs:

I'm a little confused on Danko - does he offer a self-study option for the coursework requirement? On his website it looks like each module has a 4-day virtual class which I wouldn't be able to attend due to working full time. Does this program also include self-study material, and the classes are just supplementary/optional? I was also looking at Dalton for self-study and Danko for test prep. Thoughts?

Question for any of you in the high net worth individuals tax space, do you think CFP is worth the time to get? I passed the CPA 2 months ago and see a few partners in our group have CFP but does it actually give any value. Are there any other distinctions/licenses I should look into?

Manager with a big 4 and finally have enough liquid cash to make some meaningful market investments. I am admittedly a newbie to trading and honestly don’t have a lot of interest in self-managing but would like a brokerage and/or CFP guided account (that understands/can accommodate independence requirements).

Mid 20s working at a mode sized fee-based firm. I’m a bit of a busy body and took my CFP out of a college and recently passed the CIMA - what should be a next step for career progression? Is it best just to leverage the resources around me and learn more about the actual ins and outs or to continue on with more “formal” education?

Thoughts on joining at team at Morgan Stanley vs RIA route? I have an option for a team who is all retiring and looking for succession opportunities ($3mm annual revenue book). Another option is going an RIA route with a bank affiliation.

Anyone know of any firms looking to hire CFP’s? Currently in a bank program and they recently switched everybody to salary plus bonus, both relatively low. Last bank program they laid all the advisors off and sold the business along with our books to another firm. I’m Interested in salaried Financial Planning opportunities or willing to buy a retiring Advisor’s book of business. I’m a CFP with over a decade experience in Wealth Management. Got an offer to work on a team at Morgan Stanley. 2 other advisors, $300m aum, mostly free based, financial planning practice. I’m a CFP at Edward Jones. Sounds like the ideal practice to be working on. Pros and cons of Morgan Stanley? How is their comp structure? What’s a typical fee based % rate?

Was previously working as an advisor growing a nice book and left to move 18hrs away to be close to family. I was pregnant and desperate to take what would move us and now I’m a planner working for FAs and I’m making $130k. Was fine at first while I got thru pregnancy but now I’m not happy & regret accepting the job and pay. I’m supporting others who are making 3-4times my salary. I have 10 yrs experience and CFP, often more than FAs I’m helping. Ask for more $$ or start over being an FA?

I’m looking for advice on career path. I’m interested in becoming an advisor (studying for CFP) coming from 3 years in hybrid FP analyst and paraplanner role. My team is located in CA and merged with a larger WA practice (both Ameriprise), however I live in Mass. Is it realistic to be a fully remote FA? Time zone not an issue. I really like my company and team, and there are FAs looking to give clients. I know I can find another practice in MA but I’d prefer to stay with my company. Thoughts?

I am currently finishing up CFP course work. Does anyone have tips or tricks for studying for the actual exam? I am particularly concerned about the investment planning section. I have 12 plus years in the industry and CRPC. I do planning literally everyday but a test is a test and this is the module I have had the most trouble with.
