Hey all, just wondering if anyone here has been through the referral process with McKinsey? An associate partner referred me two weeks ago and I haven't heard back yet. Trying to align McKinsey with my other interviews so hoping people here can give me a better idea. Also spoke with a senior partner a few days ago who said timeline shouldn't be an issue (after I explained everything) , but not sure if they actually looked into it or not.

Thoughts on cold LinkedIn messaging a partner working in an industry you like for an informational chat if you have an interview scheduled? (FYI not the partner who is interviewing me as far as I am aware)

🐟 - any insights on an expert role in McK? I am an executive in a small consulting firm.
1. Is it worth moving to MBB as an expert? I’ve heard mixed reviews about growth and exit opportunities.
2. Are the interviews still case based?
3. is it a respectable position McK?
4. Would it ever make partner as an expert?

Thinking about trying to find a full-remote job due to my partner applying to residencies at a lot of hospitals not in cities I could transfer to or that don’t have any Big4 at all. Is there anyone out there who’s done or is doing something like this? How do you like it? How did you find it?

Need advice for an interview for a mid-level consulting position with a partner tomorrow. From what I understand it will be an hour long behavioral interview which I think is pretty long. First interview was a pretty straightforward behavioral interview with a director. Not sure what to expect. Any questions I should ask in particular?

All. In the process of exiting consulting and have numerous interviews lined up. What are some diplomatic and interview-friendly reasons that people use to describe why they’re leaving consulting. For me personally is about finding a healthy balance and not working like a maniac - I don’t care to be a partner so why kill myself. Depending on the interview I will be honest but at the same time I don’t want my reasons to drive assumptions on their end. In any case - any advice is appreciated!

Thinking about overall career goals / vision and not really sure where to start. If I am planning on applying sponsored, does it make sense to say that my long term goal is to start a company that addresses xyz market needs? Or does it need to be based on growth in my sponsoring firm (like becoming partner, etc)?

Went through the first round interview at EY w 2 managers, with HR saying that I'll be due for the next round with Partner or Associate Partner soon (this was mid December 2020) - just got updated that they have chosen to proceed with another candidate 😭😔 Really wanted this role to pan out - numb doesn't come close to how I feel right now

I applied for a job at a competing firm. Partner interview went great. On the next call they told me they liked me but I don’t have enough experience yet, said to keep in touch and told me what kind of projects to try and get staffed on. Are rejection calls a common thing? Or are they being sincere?

Partners, what would make you skip the Q&A portion at the end of an interview? I just had a final round interview with a partner and even though we had about 3 minutes left after the case, he essentially showed me out of the Zoom room without inviting any questions (I actually prepared a couple beforehand). What are your success stories about succession planning? I was hired as a lateral to work on/help sustain a retiring partner's book of business. During my interview in 2017, he said his target retirement would be 2019-2021. Now, after a good 2020 (for our practice area), he mused that he might not retire until 2025. I don't want him to feel pushed out, and have a lot to learn from him, but I do want to help/plan handoff of work. Interested in guidance for how to have these conversations!

I have to move to another city around April because my wife is applying for a PhD. I know for sure that we are leaving but not sure which city we’re gonna go to. I’ll probably know where we’ll go by the end of March. How and when should I bring this up to my group? Should I talk to my partner about it and then tell others in the group? Hey fishes! I applied to a BCG Asia office 12 months ago with a partner referral & got auto-rejected. I didn't really know the partner well but he offered to refer me anyway after a 10 min call. I'm not sure if I got rejected because my profile sucks, or because I'm not from that Asian office/got an impersonal referral from the partner.

I was placed in Further Consideration for HBS (pushed from Round 1 to Round 2). My partner was admitted in Round 1, which I mentioned in my 400-word update. Any guesses around my odds for an interview? 750 GMAT & 3.9 GPA from state school. I’m not sure how much they’ll weigh the fact that my partner got in.

I’m afraid to start applying or looking for a new job (I like my current one but it’s not 100% on par with what I’d like to do). Hey fellow 🐠! Big4 in Europe for context. On Thursday I interviewed with a partner, the hr call me back the very same day with a verbal offer, saying it's positive etc. She told me they just need to approve the start semester. Since then, no news. Not an email.
How long until it starts to become cause for concern?

Interviewing with KPMG. Curious to understand what level a Senior Associate aligns to. Also, in general would you switch from Booz Allen to KPMG? I appreciate the work-life balance I currently have.

I got a dream job offer as a consultant for a b4 the same day as my interviews with 4 people on the team last Friday. the last partner who interviewed told me that they wanted me on the team and to go into the weekend knowing that (which I was of course super happy about) he said they would get back to me early next week with details but it’s now Thursday afternoon and I haven’t heard anything. should I be worried or is this normal for a big firm?
