What does it mean when the partner after a second round interview says "we are not hiring immediately, but will keep me updated. But if you don't hear from us, not take it as a NO!"

Interviewed for a job, was told by internal recruiter that everyone was impressed and an offer was forthcoming. That was Tuesday before Thanksgiving. I still have not received an offer or phone call. Should I follow up? How do I follow up without sounding annoying? Should I reach out to the recruiter again? Or to the partner/SM that I interviewed with?

Planning on applying in a year or two and leaving my current firm now, should I ask for letter of rec from partner/manager before leaving? As in I will need a letter down the line can you write out a general template that we can revisit later (while they are fresh from working with me)

I referred someone and he just sent me a long text that he is cancelling the interview (citing that he had a second thought about the position) after convincing HR and my Partner that this person is interested and can do the job.
Note: He called me several times prior to the referral to follow up and even assured me that he was really interested in the position. How should I handle it?

I'm supposed to set up time with the VPs next week to introduce myself. How should handle this calI? "Hi - here's my background, call me if you're hiring?" don't think they're going to hire me without transaction experience. Fake it until you make it? Maybe propose coming in as an analyst if they say no?

I’m one step away from making partner (likely 2 more years). Tried to leave 3 times - every time after a few interviews I came back and continued to suck up, because nothing was compelling enough (eg slower trajectory, more risks, or “lifestyle upgrade” is not much - everyone seems to work hard). For interview purposes, is it okay to use a writing sample that was not heavily edited but nonetheless signed solely by the partner? Our firm typically doesn’t put juniors in sig blocks even though they (obviously) do the laboring.
