Anyone hiring NY-based strategists or know if their agency is going to be making hires anytime soon?

Has anyone else been thinking about Netflix's "The Social Dilemma" and how that relates to the inserrection that we witnessed last week? I'm wondering if anyone has ideas on how we can use our position in the advertising industry to help push for change in the platforms and start healing the division in our country.

I submit my resignation at McCann Health New Jersey earlier this week to dive back into digital marketing and social media from traditional account management.

Hi folks - I’m a little over 5 years into Strategy and at my second agency now as a Senior. Though I love the work, the work life balance has been a bit of a challenge. While I’ve considered going in-house, I find that Im a natural at connecting people and have wondered about pivoting towards Creative Recruitment. Has anyone ever made such a pivot? Any advice on where to start with working on the skill set, how to pitch yourself for a role within an agency setting, etc. Thank you in advance!

Question about negotiating when hired-- During negotiations would it be weird to ask for an annual review for promotion until I am promoted to senior producer? Usually people ask for vacation or salary but i'm more concerned about making a title jump and not sitting at the same position for three more years.

Are there government jobs for us advertising/digital people? I'm mid-career, and thinking rather than going back up the chain again (I already came back down from VP/GAD into a media director roll for less BS) I want to evaluate public service. I know there's gotta be that kind of role, but I have NO idea where to start.

Chicago homies: I’m struggling. Is anyone hiring right now that I could send my book to? Like, directly, and not a robot that’s going to automatically reject me? I’m working a contract gig out of the state right now, but I really don’t want to pack up life and leave just yet. What is a normal amount of paid time off to ask for when negotiating a new role as a full-time Creative Director in the United States? I’m coming from Australia and am unsure of the standard. I heard two weeks for your first job... but since I’ve got 15 years experience, I should expect / ask for more than that, right? Thanks in advance!

Considering moving across the country for a new position (same title) which would include a 20-25% salary increase. They’d also cover moving / relocation payment which is great. It’s at a reputable shop in a nice city, and about 3-4x larger (employees wise) than my current agency. I’d love to hear opinions on this. Anyone else getting the Monday scaries early? Been out since the 23rd, afraid of the sh*t show that awaits. Before the pandemic I was actively looking, but gave up in May due to hiring freeze. Time off has made me realize how critical it is that I get out of this toxic employer—stuck on a dysfunctional team without a vision that doesn’t get along. Isn’t healthy nor worth the stress anymore for below market pay. Here’s to hoping the market turns around this year.

I recently accepted a newly created role ( which I love) with a brand. My most recent title was Sr. Project Manager. Though I’m now making more money, my current title is now project manager. The roles and responsibilities; however, are more aligned with a program manager ( think more strategic and global). After looking I noticed there were no Program Manager titles in the entire marketing division. That said, because it’s a new role, do I have the ability to request this change? If so, when?

Thoughts on how to approach the exit interview when leaving a job? Part of me wants to go in on all the issues with the job, company, clients, etc., but the other part of me wonders what it would actually accomplish.

Just got a job offer at an agency I’m really excited about, but it’d be a complete lateral move. Same position and same amount of pay now. Is it worth it? Anyone else made the switch from a traditional shop to a social media one? Been at my new role for about half a year now and still not quite used to it.

How does it work with recruiters? I had one call me yesterday (a friend referred her to me) about a specific position, but after chatting for a half hour, she had a bunch of other ideas for potential opportunities for me. We are going to reconnect after the new year. Does she just send me job opps? I don’t pay her, right? Can she help me redo my resume? Is she like my personal shopper for getting a new job?

I just got a new job offer that is a good career pivot towards a specialty I’ve always wanted. The salary is a bit more than what I’m making (but not considerably more). Afraid of making this leap during a global economic downturn. I’m pretty safe in my current role, but I’ve plateaued and and have not loved the work for a while now (even got to switch clients and still not satisfied). HR people/hiring managers: is it ok to apply to the same job twice using two different methods (like via LinkedIn and via the website) if you’ve applied one way and haven’t heard back, or is that just going to annoy people more? On the one hand I feel it increases your chances of getting seen, on the other hand it’s probably a waste of someone’s time. Thoughts?

Whats the first thing you consider before hijacking, approach or hiring a copywriter?

If most CDs want to be making the work themselves, and were just the role because they excelled as creatives but maybe don't like or aren't meant to be managers, why do we have this agency model where there's tons of hierarchy instead of having teams of creative directors who come up with ideas and do the work. In terms of nurturing talent, let the other agencies do it and then hire on people when they're senior.

I’m hopeful to get a promotion in the new year. I’m making $60k now as a Senior Associate in analytics but want to make sure I am getting paid fair for a manager role if the promotion happens.

Interviewing for a role I dont feel qualified for. Thoughts on cancelling?

OMD extended offer this morning. Tried negotiating, but recruiter informed me that the role’s salary was non-negotiable. Is this standard agency procedure? Anything else that can be negotiated?

Final interview was last Monday, hiring managers on the call said I’d hear from them by Friday. That has passed- when do I reach out to check in?

Interview Question: Understanding how many layers we usually have for interviews, how do you flex yourself when you are pitching the professionals to get the position? Do you usually repeat the same history told on the previously round or try to present “new assets”?

Why are internal promotions less than a new hire salary? If anything don’t you think that you should be paid more for an internal promotion since you’ve proven yourself vs hiring someone at that same title with more pay who hasn’t proven themself?

Realistically, how honest should I be in an exit interview? I know in theory I should be 100% honest in order to stay true to myself, help the place I’m leaving improve, etc...but the reality is there are relationships, politics and reputations on the line. I want to be honest but also want to leave on a good note/ not piss anyone off. I’m torn about what level of honest to be. (And yes, I know I could be honest while also being respectful, but even if I do that, I know people will be offended.)
