Any 🐠 with SOs in med school/residency? Feeling a lot more pressure now to not get laid off 😔. I’m happy to help support them in their journey to a meaningful career and know things are probably going to be fine in the long run (we’re pretty frugal). However, with the economy as it is and the sheer amount of student debt, just feels like a long road ahead and no idea how long it will take to ever pay off

Does your firm have a legitimate amount of projects still going on right now? I was told by various leaders at my firm banking and Healthcare were still busy as ever, and then I ask people in the practice, and they say their clients have hit the pause button on almost everything. Would like to think "pause" is all this will be, but have to believe mass layoffs are just a matter of time. Meanwhile, tech is the only industry hiring 😩

Does anyone know if there are guidelines for layoffs? For example, if you are reducing a large % of workforce then give a 4 week notice. Or how long a “standard” layoff notice or severance is?

I’ve been off my last billable project for about a month, but my firm has had me putting in full days to work on important internal initiatives and business development that are being taken very seriously, and that include deadlines, etc. very similar to the work I’d do while on a project. Is it likely I’ll be laid off if this continues for another couple of months? How long do you think my firm might let me stay employed like this if they continue to have this much non-billable work for me?

My coworkers and I were laid off from Grant Thornton mostly due to utilization issues, although it's sad that utilizations were out of our control, should've left earlier like the rest of our peers.
