He’s a neuroscience PhD and is interviewing to be an analyst?? Pssssht. He needs to be looking at big data/SaaS companies. Pay is better and far more opportunities that will understand how to utilize his background.
Not worth it - he’d be selling himself short. I know folks applying to similar roles down there who are fresh out of undergrad.

For example, at the firm I’m at, all undergrads are hired in as analysts and all MBAs/PhDs are hired as associates - both with the same career path but different comp

His program should have career services. He should take advantage of alumni connections. He should look specifically at something geared at his background/skill set not because there's any shame in being an analyst with a PhD, but because he doesn't want to be in a position where they don't know how to use him and he's bored and frustrated and it shows in his performance.
