I would be doing both and weighing my options
Take the other team while you job search externally.
Your firm is giving you 2 weeks notice that you’re being left without a job but you’re worried that your new team will look badly upon you if and when you give your 2 weeks notice?
No ones going to fault you for that.
Both. Start pursuing opportunities internally and externally. Getting a new job takes time, don’t want to get caught flat footed.
Move to whatever group and use the time to find another job outside.
If you are in the firm that I know this just happened in, then maybe explore some of the Risk Management opportunities that were just emailed out about two weeks ago. I know internal transfers can take time, but hopefully they would work with your current situation. However, if there are jobs outside of the firm that you would be interested in/qualified for and you are getting enough severance to cover the gap, then I would look into that.
I hope it all works out for you!
Considering the hiring process takes 5-6 weeks, I’d go with what D1 said. Kinda harsh move there!
So you will be foregoing the severance pay. Better be employed in the meantime rather than get severance but have uncertainty.
You’re a manager?? What kind of question is this. Unless you don’t need a job you start looking at all options. Who cares if internal or external
..you to join their group? The layoff is due to reduction in workforce, not performance. And you are basically a high performer.
Define high performer, please
What firm are you in now?
I'm in one of the big 4.
Are you new to consulting? If not, and if you’re really a M, you really need to catch up on how consulting operates. None of the alternatives here. Changing groups are good for you to extend your networking and increase visibility within yhe firm. You’ll never become a SM working for 1 group forever.
Are the Big 4 doing this right now? I haven’t seen this since 2008, usually see them ride out the slow period so they’re ready when the work comes
OP is in KPMG very likely. We had a round of layoffs in risk consulting a week ago.
