Any tips on how to minimize your healthcare costs in the US? Fairly new to the country, and getting quite high medical bills from specialist consultations and procedures. E.g. got a >$350 bill for a less than half hour virtual consultation (2nd visit) with a GE. Have an Aetna insurance, high deductible. Disappointed Amazon + GS + Berkshire were not able to accomplish much

You end up fronting costs with a high deductible plan, but consider 1) looking for specialists that are in network 2) comparing price between specialists (this won't be a lot, but if you can knock off $50 why not 3) asking if there is a discount for paying cash directly to the provider - this saves them administrative burden with insurance billing.

If you would prefer to not pay a lot upfront, consider a PPO plan with a lower deductible. Your premiums will be higher but if you go to the doctor frequently, it can lead to more cost savings.

Thank you, very helpful!

Use a comparison service such as Castlight to compare costs across providers. But primarily, with that plan (I have the same one) you’ll experience some initial sticker shock but ultimately building up your HSA and tracking your spending to predict/inform decisions will help you.

Thank you! I used the Aetna app for estimated cost, but seems it was not very accurate. Will try castlight.

As a manager, I'm stepping but incredibly stress with the amount of moving parts. I don't have a strong rapport with the partner (Neither did the SM) to be open and transparent on how stressful I'm feeling without downgrading myself.

I'm sick to the stomach and very anxious, stressed at the suddenness of the thrust.

Additional Posts in Consulting

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.
