As a first year associate (A2) what should my utilization be at the end of the year? I’m looking at finishing with ~75% if I’m fully staffed the rest of the year.

I pity those who revel in the "accomplishment" of have 100+ YTD utilization. Y'all got suckered by the firm.

Are ppl worried about being on the bench esp when there aren’t a lot of projects in the pipeline? New hire here about to be up for staffing for the first time and sentiment at my firm seems to be worried/fearful about being unstaffed. Is it actually worrisome to be on the bench in this environment or is this just a product of highly ambitious over achievers worrying about not being constantly utilized?

How common are credit checks for roles in accounting or finance positions? Will high utilization on credit card balances and low credit score be a deal breaker? I’ve been irresponsible and made mistakes, but wondering if I can switch jobs now or if I’m best off waiting 1-2 years and cleaning up my credit first.

I don’t understand how people keep posting about the bench and being unassigned. I’m in advisory(not audit) and my entire LoS is trending 90%+ utilization

Do all firms share utilization reports for all staff with everyone? I feel like it’s awful for our company culture to share everyone’s stats office-wide. Just breeds anger and bad vibes all around.

Hadn’t noticed this sub before, and most of the threads are old so thought I’d ask a follow up - how has everyone been handling parenting with public accounting? I’ve got a toddler and my wife is an accountant (industry), and we only have a few immediate family in the country- but they have health concerns. Busy season was rough, things are looking better now as things return to normal. Still working crazy hours if you count the daycare duties on top of utilization targets.

I’m struggling. I left an agency I liked last year due to growth limitations and since then I’ve worked at 2 different agencies and can’t seem to find my footing. The first one seemed like a good fit at first but then it turned out to not be the best place for me so I left. At my current agency I feel super undervalued. I’m always raising my hand and offering to help where I can and no matter what I do, I don’t feel utilized or valued or part of the team.It’s really taken a toll on my confidence

Now my standard util is 40 and my adjusted is 105... and this project last in another month... by then my standard util might be 20.. will my promotion be affected by this? Manager Ratings: Generally speaking, in consulting, for a long term project, if there’s a team of 6 people (1 person managing everyone, and below that person 5 different people who are associates or senior associates) is there pressure on the manager to give at least 1 of the 5 associates/senior associates a bad review? Assuming everyone performed anywhere from good to great, would a lot of managers feel it would make them look bad to let all 5 have a good review?
