Can we be real about the sacrifices partners need to make in their life to get and do the job? I'm trying to gauge if it's the right track for me.

If you're wondering if it's the right path, it's probably not the right path. It's not an easy road by any means, so you really have to have that deep-seeded passion to really make it. If not, you'll burn out quick. Don't mean to be harsh, just keeping it real.

Bit extreme. I had doubts along the way. I deviated from the path once and spent 7 years in industry between M and SM.

Consulting Partner is one of the more flexible jobs you’ll find at this level of comp. The biggest sacrifice used to be nights away from family, but that’s much more manageable now (tbd what the future holds). The real challenges for me have not been the hours so much as 1) managing the stress and not letting it carryover and impact my family time, and (2) the timing of the push to Partner and early Partner years coinciding with precious & challenging years with a young family.

Same boat. Will hang in there 🫡

It would be super valuable if everyone who has or is commenting on this share their tenure of being partner. Obviously so many variables on a forum like this but it seems like a different cost/benefit analysis for people who made it 10 + years ago, being much harder for those even making within the last 6-7 and since. Just seems like the game has changed for younger partners.

The hard work is getting to partner. Then you can coast and let the associates do the dirty work.

I’m an attorney at PwC and if you are still practicing and think this is how it works, I might have a reality show we can collaborate on. Kind of like Undercover Boss but ends up with us both looking up regs while also running XLOOKUPs and dealing with a bunch of people/operational issues at all hours of the day. This Fall on CBS.

Focus on opportunities. What are opportunities out there for you in your current business and others? Find those and focus on them. There will always be challenges in everything you will do. Focus on your goals to keep yourself motivated. If you are already focused on the challenges then you will burn out quick. Every one of them will find you and you will hit the pole in front of you every time.

Making partner cost me a marriage. Sacrifices are real.

Having been in a similar situation myself, I empathize with you.
The truth is marriage commitment is real, it doesn't have to be hard, but requires sacrifices on both sides. If you're lucky and marry right, life becomes easier, when a spouse isn't aligned then it's really like working against the tide.

Take solace in knowing that you gave it your all and will continue to give your kids the very best.
The question remains who will take care of you? We work so hard, invest so much and try our best to push others and our family forward, who nourishes us back in return? How do we manage to have an enriching personal life?

I’m graduating in December, with a background in environmental economics and policy. Consulting didn’t work out this cycle. Made it to final rounds for Bain and Kearney but in the end didn’t get an offer. I want to recoup and try again, but I’m worried that once I’m out of undergrad the door will be closed to starting in consulting.

What can I do to make this happen? I have friends and connections at Bain and Kearney and the other firms as well, but not sure if it’s feasible now.

Hi fishes, I need some guidance.

I am currently into the SAP Security domain and I absolutely do not have any interest in it. I am planning to shift to development and have started on some courses on my own.

My question is, is there any future prospects in SAP UI5 and Fiori? Since my background is in SAP, I assume it will make a domain switch easier.

Or should I move into the JS-React path since there seems to be a lot of demand? But my worry is about my lack of actual work experience
