Does anyone not show work in credentials meetings? My agency doesn't do it and I've never seen another agency do it that way.

I worked for an agency that candidly didn’t have great creative work. Wasn’t exciting to show in a meeting. We shared case studies that did show some work but most of the content was on results and metrics.

HELP! I’ve been remote since day one (everyone in my team is) but my manager just told me that the laws for visa process are going back to prepandemic rules where in process employees are supposed to work in the company’s location. He mentioned that there are likely exceptions. Should I be concerned? Anyone has experience with this? The office is over an hour drive from my home.

Hello! Are there any Canadian/European folks out there that have changed jobs while pregnant?

When I applied I didn't know I was pregnant...and now, looks like I'll likely have at least one (if not two🤞🏼) offer soon that I'm really interested in. By the time I start, I'll be 15-16 wks along.

Would like to know people's experience, when they told their employer, reactions, etc. I know legally I am protected but I'm worried about reactions esp. given I want to take my 1 year leave.

About to embark on registry. I have major ticket items from my sister already. Wondering if adding a dyson vacuum would be weird since it’s not strictly “baby”? but will help immensely when baby is here. Could be completely frowned upon or I could be completely overthinking. Help?!

Additional Posts in New Business. The good, the bad, the ugly.

I find myself looking for a new role in agency / production company biz dev. I co-founded a creative production agency back in 2010. Grew it to a staff of 80 FTE, creating strategic content-driven campaigns for brands, tv networks, streamers, platforms, publishers etc. We developed and produced original TV as well. Around 2016 we positioned the company for sale and then sold in Jan 2019. After going over to the acquirer in 2020, I’m now free for the first time in a long time. What to do?

I’ve seen a lot of agencies bring in freelancers for new business work (either production or concept creating). Would you ever consider bringing in a new business consultant or pitch expert?

I’ve been working on a pitch that continues to get delayed and it’s poorly managed. The RFI was due in July. Then days AFTER submission I received an email from the consultant saying we now had until August. End of September rolls around and frankly I had forgotten about this 100-page beast. They want a meet and greet….the following week. The day before the meet and greet we get a list of questions (that aren’t easy softballs). Now 2 weeks later and nothing. What a gross feeling this process is

What is the pandemic version of "let's grab coffee". as a biz dev person I am struggling with how to make that initial connection. I offer up calls and/or zooms. Let us know if you have a good tip on how to break the ice with new biz/ get new potential clients interested.

Thoughts on winmo? Useful or crap?

Fishies, I am hiring a partner in crime to help me introduce PETERMAYER to the national stage. This isn't your typical biz dev role - it's designed to be a hybrid/cross-discipline role for someone who wants to use their full creative, strategic brain and most definitely NOT stay in their lane. Know anyone that sounds like that, send them my way! (Agency is full-time flex/hybrid, but a desire to be NOLA-based is strongly preferred; however remote may be negotiable.)

Anyone here have any advice for outsourcing new business? We’re an 18month old, busy design consultancy. I’m getting tied up in delivering the work and the pipeline suffers.

Hey! First timer. I’m moving over into biz dev and am trying to get a better handle on how you all do this thing!
Is there anything you wish you knew earlier on? Any tips for this new comer is very appreciated

Hi! Has anyone gone to one of the GDS group CMO Insight Summits? Is it worth the large price tag?

Any new biz roles open in NY? I’m looking for Account Supervisor level! I’m struggling to find New Business roles in general, I feel sometimes it can be such a niche search. Any tips / words of wisdom?

I’ve had bad experiences with New Business hired in the past. As in, nothing happened over 6-12 month periods bad. My agency (independent national player with Fortune 500 clients) is asking me to help search for a dedicated resource to business development. What should I be looking for and what should the agency’s expectations be? Thank you!

What are you doing to drive inbound? How are you marketing your agency? Or do you?

Hi all! Just introducing myself. I’ve become a Bowl Leader here in the new biz bowl. Looking forward to it! This bowl helped me tremendously when I switched from prod co sales to full service agency biz dev. Great group! I’m now biz dev director for a production/post/animation facility. Please comment with a bit about you and your role. Thanks!

Quick Q - how are your comp plans structured ? Not the amounts but more how do you handle recognizing revenue of multi year deals?

We've focused on networking and self promotion through a monthly newsletter for our new business process; sprinkled in with a tiny bit of RFPs. We're considering doing a mailing to targets. Thoughts?

Anyone know of great junior talent looking to get into New Biz? We’re hiring

Anybody care to share tactics for negotiating rates with procurement? Know they’re bluffing to drive all competing agencies down, but not sure what leverage we have to push back.

Say we’ve got a pitch in 3 weeks. What’s a typical fee for a freelance strategist to lead the strategy and work with the team to build the deck? How much would they make in that gig?
