I haven’t told my teams outright. I make enough jokes about it (one of my ways of dealing with it - I try to see everything in life through a bit of humor) that I think they are probably all aware. Everyone has been supportive and given me a day off here or there if I need it or am struggling
I have been very open with my anxiety. When people ask me in the office about it, I educate them in attempt to break the stigma. I think a lot more people go to/have gone to therapy than most people think and they’re surprised to hear that others go to therapy sessions similar to theirs. In reality, I guess I like to test my coworkers too. I don’t want to work for a firm that doesn’t take mental health seriously. Although to be fair I work for a small tight-knit office so people tend to be more empathetic since we have grown to know each other so well.
I did.
Depends how close you are with your team and how much it affects your work I would say. You could consult our livewell resources too.
I have told a few managers that I am really close with and trust. A couple of them actually told me about their issues too
I don’t think they need to know, as long as it isn’t affecting your work. If it’s someone you trust absolutely if it feels comfortable - but there should be no pressure.
Thanks for your responses! I'm not sure how to tell them but it's good to know I'm not the only one out there.
Thanks PWC2 and M1. At first it was starting to affect my relationships with colleagues. We all sit together in an open office with my managers but I know there is a lot of work to do and it helps me to focus on something productive.
Thanks SC1 the support goes a long way. It's helpful when you're in a tight knit group and even if it's bigger so you don't feel like the only one. I think a lot of people go to therapy but it's not something you hear people talk about, at least for me that is. I think it should be able to talk about it more openly but I'm just trying to keep my head above water and learn how to cope
