I’ve been freelance for 15 years. For me it’s the money, no travel, little client interaction, not getting emotionally invested. Just do the work and get out.
Way less stress, you can pick your clients/projects, and when you have to work crazy hours, you actually reap the benefits. It makes 12 hour days feel much better when you get paid for them.
You also just have time to breathe and live life without feeling like you have to be somewhere just to show face.
You can sleep in sometimes.
I freelanced for years.
Pros: Schedule flexibility, general freedom, significantly better hourly rate.
Cons: Finding clients, benefits (insurance, 401K, etc), lack of management experience if working solo
