Going from working my butt off knowing I was underpaid but had no leverage to negotiate at Omnicom, to laid off and applying for UI, medicaid and snap benefits to get through the holidays in the blink of an eye… really makes me question why I was trying so hard to make good work for a company that ultimately saw me as nothing more than a line item. I have no idea how young people are supposed to survive this industry with falling wages and no safetynets.

Applying to roles within the same federal agency. I know you need one year within the probationary period, but can I apply to a higher GS level? For example, if I'm GS 9, receive a promotion to GS 11 at the end of probation, would i be able to apply to GS 13 roles if I'm qualified? Are you responsible for giving performance feedback? Avoid giving personality based feedback. Examples include telling an Asian person they are too quiet/shy or telling a Black person they are agressive/abrasive. DO NOT DO THIS. It clearly represents bias in Performance Management. Performance feedback should be tied to business outcomes with clear examples of what the person does well + how they can improve.

I’m have a new theory about why juniors always feel like idiots and wanted to see if anyone else thinks this makes sense. It’s hard to be motivated when rounds of layoffs happen and you see all your friends leave. But one thing that’s gotten me through all of this is working out. And when I say workout I mean the most pathetic, sad, barely completed beginner-level cardio dance routines. I’ve somehow forced myself to move while on lockdown and it’s somehow forced me to feel better. Whatever you’re doing, wherever you are: get up and move even if you don’t finish or end up going on a walk. Pls take care of yourself❤️
