I know a fierce high performing lady manager who complained to leadership from a different practice to get this other male manager not get promoted to SM for over 3 years now. She even ensured he lost all his counselees. There’s a longer story why but here’s the gist. Enjoy!
Sounds like he should have been let go long ago
I was the subject of a sexual harassment investigation, which ultimately found that I had done nothing wrong (because I hadn’t). I was told by leadership that there would be no action taken against me but if another allegation surfaced I’d be fired without the benefit of a second investigation.
The other manager who was competing for the same senior manager spot as me found out. She made an allegation. I got fired.

Partly🙋🏼♀️ back when I was a staff, we had a manager on the team that was up for SM promotion. He was a big schmoozer with the client and our leadership and was all but guaranteed for promotion. But he didn’t actually do any work on the project. He didn’t understand at all was what going on in the project, couldn’t speak in detail to any of the work the staff were doing and dumped ALL of his client responsibilities on us. When the staff found out about his possible promotion, we told the SM what was happening and his promotion was cancelled. He ended up leaving the firm I think
Does that ever happen? Getting promoted from Manager to Partner that is.

Yeeeeesh - the other SMs play is absolutely ruthless
Had an intern I managed at my last company who was gunning for a FT role. After numerous complaints from colleagues, her not making tangible improvements on her performance, and just a generally bad culture fit, I didn’t recommend her to get hired. My company was on a hiring freeze and wanted to keep her. I again listed out specific examples of her not meeting expectations. They eventually shifted her to another department and gave her a FT role. Seeing her in the hallways was always awkward.
