Has anyone ever switched jobs because of the healthcare coverage? My firm is small to midsize but my portion of the premium + copays and coinsurance is my biggest expense aside from daycare and mortgage and I’m actually worried we’re not going to make ends meet now that premiums are going up again. I make a good salary, but this takes a third of it, at least. I’m an attorney, I can’t imagine how support stuff with families are swinging this.

I was at a midsize firm and the premium was outrageous, I couldn’t wrap my mind around it. I’m in house now, I switched for better work life balance, but one additional perk is a $0 premium if I participate in a yearly biometric screening.

This actually makes me feel better. I’m not ready to go in house because I can’t afford the pay cut but maybe if I had that benefit it would make up the difference.

Not sure it helps, but staff typically aren't offered the same plans as attorneys. It's typically more in line with our salaries.

In both big law and small law my employers have paid 80-100% of my coverage, and I've only been responsible for my family. In big law my cost was about ten percent of my monthly income and now in small law I'm paying about fifteen percent of my monthly income.

like

Last small firm I was with paid 100% of mine but then it was like $700/mo for each dependent. I kept the policy for myself but purchased private insurance for my family.

I’ve suffered from workaholism for a long time. Thanks to a lot of great self help books and therapy, I’m no longer putting work on a pedestal and I’m spending a lot more time on self care and my marriage. But, unfortunately, I am now getting withdrawals, because my body is used to the daily adrenaline of throwing myself into work. It’s this terrible feeling of like anguish/unease in my gut, but I don’t have anything I’m worried about- it’s like my body wants to find something to worry about.

Hi There - I work for an organization that has retail locations. I had the team lead call me this morning (a Saturday) because he had to send a new employee home. The employee he sent home had a mental health episode shortly after arriving to work. The team lead had asked him to be on order taking duty to work on the new employee's customer service skills. The employee said he could not interact with people today and when pressed further started to cry and said he (new employee) felt like he wanted to hurt someone else or himself. The team lead had the new employee call someone to come pick him up.

My question is, has anyone else ever had to deal with a similar situation in the pas where an employee admits he could be a danger to himself or others?

I just started meds yesterday and the change in my focus and attention to detail is mind blowing. My only concern is, just yesterday I had a tough feedback session with my manager around how I’m taking too long to complete my work, giving them anxiety around close deadlines. I’m new in the job (3 months in). Should I explain anything about my adhd to my manager or just wait for them to notice the change in me?

I’m so ready to leave… I just can’t bear the thought of doing it to my children even though another part of me feels like wife and I would both be better parents if our lives were separate.
