I was at a midsize firm and the premium was outrageous, I couldn’t wrap my mind around it. I’m in house now, I switched for better work life balance, but one additional perk is a $0 premium if I participate in a yearly biometric screening.
This actually makes me feel better. I’m not ready to go in house because I can’t afford the pay cut but maybe if I had that benefit it would make up the difference.
Not sure it helps, but staff typically aren't offered the same plans as attorneys. It's typically more in line with our salaries.
In both big law and small law my employers have paid 80-100% of my coverage, and I've only been responsible for my family. In big law my cost was about ten percent of my monthly income and now in small law I'm paying about fifteen percent of my monthly income.
Last small firm I was with paid 100% of mine but then it was like $700/mo for each dependent. I kept the policy for myself but purchased private insurance for my family.
