I can’t imagine why a firm or insurance company would just agree to pay more.
You say it’s an awkward threat but I get a kick out of being a woman of childbearing age and having occasional medical appointments. Makes people nervous thinking I or another colleague is pregnant and going to be out. I sometimes feels like the only power I have. 😅
Get an offer from another firm, negotiate a retention bonus.
This is a weird ask. The cap is imposed by the insurance provider not the employer.
Except for most firms (esp BL) they self insure their health plan so the cap is 100% set by the employer. I mean some insurers have “fertility programs” that may default some of these, but OP you can 100% talk to your firms HR team about increasing the cap. $30k is woefully low and is not market any longer for fertility benefits. Most companies (that offer this type of benefit) and insurers have moved to cycle based programs for your exact reason. You will not be able to negotiate one off benefits (I mean you could ask for a cash bonus to cover it out of pocket, but you’d want to ask they gross it up too) but your employer won’t be able to just allow for you alone to have more fertility benefits under your group health plan.

Isn't going to happen. Maybe if you can get all of the women attorneys to come together and push for the cap to be increased, but the odds aren't great.

How about people who don’t want kids getting nothing? Or gay men? Cue the tiny violins for your free $30k benefit being unfair.
So no cancer treatments because cancer free people don’t get the same benefit? Your logic makes no sense but I bet you think you’re smart with that one.

Good luck with the convos, OP! Will have to carefully thread the needle here not to come across as entitled
