I never had significant side effects and took it for years. I also don’t think it helped much w my depression/ anxiety personally. If they do make you tired, take it at night instead of in the morning. I never had weight gain Definitely makes you drunk faster so that’s something to be aware of
I’m on it with minimal side effects. Makes me a little tired is all. But the benefits outweigh the side effects. Give it a chance (takes a few weeks) and see if it works for you.
I take 10mg - I would definitely recommend stepping up to the full dose rather than starting abruptly. Starting or ending lexapro too suddenly really makes you feel awful so gradual is key. Be gentle with yourself and take it easy while you are starting. Could be helpful to make your managers or counselor aware if you are comfortable in case you need to take a day
I started last week with 5mg and going up to 10mg this week. Noticing a change in my mood already, and the side effects aren’t too bad yet. Some nausea and insomnia
Yes, I have discussed my concerns with my doctor. She said that the most common effects are tiredness and nausea, but to try to push through the adjustment period and I should hopefully start seeing benefits in a month or so
I took Lexapro on/off for about 3 years during and after college. I believe I started on 5mg up to 10mg after 2 weeks, and had crazy side effects - vivid dreams, hyperactivity. Then one day those side effects stopped and I balanced out and finally felt ‘normal’ and actually content instead of depressed and miserable. Honestly, during that time, I don’t know how I would’ve made it without lexapro, but it did start to make me feel sleepy and affected my sex drive. Getting off it was a nightmare though. I constantly had this feeling of being spun around really fast and then suddenly stopping, and also panic attacks which I never had before. But I think it was all worth it. Good luck!
HUGE fan of Lexapro and have supported a handful of friends during the “adjustment period” (4-6 weeks typically). I’ve been on it for 4 years now and my only regret is not starting it sooner. GI complaints are VERY common the first 2-3 weeks. My girlfriend had nausea AND diarrhea for a solid 2 weeks - and then it disappeared.
My advice is to stay off google while you adjust and know that whatever you’re feeling (unless SEVERE of course) is simply a side effect that will most likely subside. Best of luck - it WILL get better!
Ask your doctor about a prescription drug called Zolfran for nausea. It works really well and also has a calming affect. Only side affect I’ve had from Zofran is constipation
Lexapro changes my life, I lucked out and didn’t have any of the stomach issues when starting but after trying a few other meds that made my anxiety/depression worse lex was the easiest adjustment and saw positive improvements in my mood within a week. I started at 10mg a day and am now up to 15mg, no plans on making changes anytime soon.
Lexapro is my jam. Killed my sex drive but there are worse things. I take it for anxiety.
Prayer works!!
Discuss your concerns with your doctor. There are specific ones that won’t make you gain weight and can increase your energy.
Lexapro made me feel like crap. Natural anti anxiety remedies include L-theanine, holy basil, ashwaganda - and there are more - you can read about them. Have had no bad side effects. There are a few naturopathic psychiatrists and MDs out there that don’t push pharmaceuticals first and who can guide you; just do some research on who they are in your area.
I appreciate this so much! Thank you!
I’ll keep that in mind in case I feel that way. I hope I don’t feel like that at work
I’ll definitely look into that!
