I am so sorry to hear about the lay off. I was laid off about 6 months ago and it has been rough looking for a new job. Hang in there and keep applying. Also reach out to your network and see if anyone can offer a referral.
I have more than 20 years of experience as a visual/web designer, and I've been out of a job since September 2024. And I totally feel what you're feeling. I have applied for over 400 positions, spanning a range of roles from brand/graphic/web/visual design to junior and mid-level graphic design positions, despite my experience as a senior and lead designer. All I keep getting are rejects. I interviewed for 10 roles, but none of them led to any opportunities. I have applications dating back to October 2024 that have not been answered. I'm assuming those are ghost roles, and it's just a matter of having too many competitors. Every job I have applied to has had over 100 applicants. The market is currently weak and oversaturated, with thousands of designers competing for available positions. I'm not sure if things will ever improve. I'm not trying to be negative, but the future in this creative world looks bleak. It feels like only the cream of the crop will make it. I do design exercises, courses, tutorials, and mock projects to keep myself busy and my skills sharp and up to date, but after a while, you yearn for a real project and income to go with it. I'm considering volunteering my design services to gain a real project, which I hope will look good on my resume.
