Hi all, had a very technical question. I'm doing my 2020 NY state taxes itemized deductions (form IT 196). Do y'all know if we can deduct NY state and local taxes or do we have to add them back in Line 41 of this form since these aren't really eligible for deductions. Haven't found a clear answer on this so hoping for some clarity!

Additional Posts in SALT - State and Local Tax

Why is it when I owe money to a state from my annual tax filings, if I don’t pay the full amount I get charged interest. But when they owe me, they ask for additional documentation and won’t pay me interest for them stonewalling me. Not much volatility y/y in earnings.

Maxed out Roth IRA contributions when I wasn't eligible for 2021 (got a salary bump mid year). Do I need to recharacterize? It's a very small account that's been open for only two years. That's the only IRA account I own. Do I need to open a traditional IRA and roll over 6k + realized gains into that account and keep the Roth IRA. So confused how this works and got conflicting information from Merrill.
