Do you actually have an offer from Media Monks at $30k over your current role? Or is that just an opportunity? Unless you have an offer, I don’t think it would even matter.
If you do have an offer, it may be worth a conversation with the currently accepted offer to see what the options are. Is it about the salary? If the current offer matched the salary (or came close), would you stay? If it’s not about the salary and it’s about the company, then there’s probably not a way to leave gracefully without burning the bridge, so approach the situation carefully. Make sure it’s the right decision both for the short term and the long term.
@PM1 Speaking all the things I've been thinking about, which reassures me and my instincts 😂
Also, well done and excited the timing worked out for you and you found a better fit!!
I did this recently. I signed a deal at a place my friend reccomended me at and literally the next day my first choice which I hadn't heard back from in almost a month came and offered me 35k more. It wasn't easy but I took the better offer. At the end of the day it's your career. Just be graceful and truthful. Thank them for the offer and be on your way.
I'm also still trying to figure out how much weight big agency names hold on a resume vs years of experience and title. Ex: Producer title at a smaller agency with a little more influence vs Sr. Producer at a well-known company. At the end of the day, how much does it really matter compared to the actual years in experience?? 🧐🤔🤔
Guilt-wise, Honestly think it’s better to change your mind at the offer stage than starting and then 6 weeks in take another offer. At that point it’s easier for the company to pivot and offer to the other candidates they have lined up and haven’t told no to yet.
People are very understanding of the money conversation, like we have people doing said latter situation, starting and leaving within 2-3 months because they got a better offer and it’s totally understood. More on the company to be a more attractive place to come work and stay.
This is a great point! And also something I’ve been thinking about a lot. As bad as it would be to renege after offer or within a couple weeks of starting, I’d guess it’s MUCH worse getting on boarded, working, and then leaving. Like, way to waste everyone’s time. Well, I guess rescinding after offer is a little wasteful too… waste less of people’s time 😅
I’m literally procrastinating the reneg call for a similar situation right now. $30k more upon sign-on on brand side. The toughest part of this is going back on your acceptance, I’m telling myself that internal guilt trip will fade away
Yes! Usually, you want to get the offer, but I'm almost dreading it because it will force me into this decision 😂
Been there. Reneged on Christmas morning because I’d been dreading the call and procrastinating. I made the right move, but the guilt lives on.
😬😬😬 At least you know you made the right move! My fear is going through all of that only to find you made the wrong choice 😅
Just do your part and be as upfront and honest as possible. Whether or not the bridge is burned is really up to the agency. Some shops will hold the grudge, some won’t.
From a CD perspective I would just suggest doing it as soon as your mind is made up. Don’t wait, give the agency time to pivot. If you’re not set to start for awhile, I’d be bummed I didn’t get my first choice. But if someone reneged like the day before they were set to start, I’d be kinda pissed.
CD1 Yea, exactly!!
SM1 Yikes! I’m so sorry! I am genuinely trying to avoid being that person!
