Your standard is what you tolerate. If someone’s work or conduct isn’t up to my standard, I’ll work with them to get it up to the standard (coaching, advising, resources, etc). If it becomes apparent that they can’t meet the standard, you may need to find someone else who can (or work with whomever is in charge to make that move).
If someone is trying but can’t do it, I’ll give them a lot of help before I move on. If someone isn’t trying I won’t waste much time before moving on (that thankfully doesn’t happen often).
Those are good points. I’ve found over the years that if I’m hiring the right people, if they are struggling it’s usually because of something I did (or failed to do).
