What’s your income and how much do you plan to spend on a house? Based on what you’re saying, if saving 10k without decreasing your $360 per month 401k contribution is too difficult, I don’t think you can afford to buy a house yet.
I needed to hear that last sentence. Thank you!
Have you considered waiting an extra year to buy a house and not taking money out of your retirement? Everyday day invested in your 20s means a whole lot more in retirement. Personally, I don’t think your retirement should be touched unless an absolute emergency. Perhaps a lower cost house? :)
My issue is that I live in Austin, TX. It’s is growing extremely fast. Property values are appreciating 5-10% a year so I’m worried the risk is higher that I get priced out the market versus not recouping the retirement investment. Also feel that locking in living cost in this area may be the best retirement strategy I can make right now. But open to change my mind.
Have you considered, take a 10K loan from your 401k. All payments (principal + interest) go back to your 401K, you just end up paying applicable fees to loan manager.
Caveat: if you quit your current company the. You’ve to pay pack the loan amount in fill else it’s considered as early withdrawal.

Why don't you just aggressively save over the next 2 years for a downpayment instead of screwing around with your retirement account. That's just crazy. With 130-150k combined income you should be able to save close to 20% downpayment in 2 years.

Another option potentially to put less down and take on PMI?
I get trying to lock in a house if you’re trying to put roots down in ATX (market has been crazy hot for years), but I would really suggest trying to find alternatives vs touching retirement.
Do you have other retirement accounts? If not , you are basically zeroing our your retirement at 27.
Also, outside of down payment, would the mortgage be affordable to where you could aggressively save? Or would you be cash poor? That’s another big question imo

It took 5 years to build $15k in your 401k during the best bull market in recent history? If you wipe that out and start over at 28/29 with your current savings rate you’ll never retire. You need to be investing more in your 401k not withdrawing on it for a house that’s likely nicer than you can afford and that you don’t need at your age.
