Anyone have experience with Concert Health?
I’m 3 months in to my first job post grad and I have thoughts of private practice as well. I will be watching this post to look for ideas as well. I predict you will hear to go for it! Just have 3-6 months of living expenses saved up first while you build up your clients. Best wishes to you!
I work for a group practice as well. Alma is a company that helps you get paneled. They take the leg work out of dealing with insurance companies. They charge a monthly fee though. I’m not with them but have heard only positive things.
3 years out seems really young to me to go out in your own- have you done acute care? Crisis intervention? You have to have a very strong psychiatric background to really manage anything that comes to you…
Start getting on insurance panels! I have been doing it for 11 years. I love it!
What is an insurance panel?
If you are going to take insurance, you need to get credentialed with them.
I am curious why you chose to go to the insurance route instead of private pay? Interested in your pros and cons!
Because I believe everyone should have access. I once tried to find a specialist for my son and they wanted to charge me a ton of money. I don’t think money should be a barrier to healthcare.
Sometimes it can be a hassle but you the EHR programs are integrating billing and it isn’t very hard.
CAQH Proview can help you get paneled with insurances as well. Insurance is a bit of a hassle at times because it can take a while for claims to be processed and for you to be reimbursed. You can also work as an out of network provider and provide patients with superbills for them to turn into their insurance for reimbursement after they pay cash upfront. I really like the online therapy platforms though, like AbleTo, Ginger, Thriveworks, etc. Most start around $40+/hr, offer flexible/create your own schedules, and provide the technology for you to see patients and chart with.
Have you done your own work? This to me seems the most essential part of being an individual therapist.
Contact Alma. They will panel you with insurance and help you get patients! They’re great.
I just started working with Grow Therapy. It's really just a full service admin support. They do the work to get you paneled with insurance companies, schedule online, support virtual visits if that's the route you want, and handle all the billing. Pay you out every Friday. They take 5% for their fee and give you a 1099 for taxes at the end of the year. They also partner with an insurance company so you could get insurance for yourself (I still have a full time job with insurance so I don't know details about it). For me at least, this solved all of my administrative problems, and I'm more than happy to throw 5% at all the problems they solve for me.
Ive been in private practice for 6 years. It helps to define the niche u want to work with, what types of clients light u up? who do u feel most successful with? You could start small and keep your current job for a little while. You could get a Virtual Assistant (i have one from Therapy Practice solutions) and they help with credentialing, billing issues. I bill thru my EHR Therapy Notes.
