I got just promoted to SM 1 and am waiting to see the comp post market adjustments. I also have an offer from KPMG for a Director position with 230k base. I think I have a good brand at PwC but will most likely take 2 years to get to Director level. I have no interest in being a partner, my goal is to exit consulting at the highest position, as soon as possible. What would you advice?

Congrats!! May I know how long it takes you from SA3 to M1?

Awesome! I’m gonna join as SA3 and hope to get a promotion in 1.5yr if possible. Your case is encouraging!

Putting in main thread. This question comes up a lot, and I think it’s important everyone knows this:

PWC senior manager is = to an experience manager at EY Advisory, Deloitte, KPMG. PWC director = KPMG director = EY senior manager = Deloitte senior manager.

EY - Parthenon confused everyone by making their managers = directors, and senior managers = senior directors.

Anyways, your KPMG director offer is a promotion from your current PWC senior manager role.

I am currently interviewing with EYP as well [last interview coming up soon] I am thinking of countering for about 260, while buying time for other the interviews to be completed. I am also interviewing for EY senior manager

230 for director is not low.

Oh wait you were talking about firms outside of KPMG. Yeah that’s low.

likefunny

I worked at KPMG years ago and a Director was more like an SM at EY and less like an EY Director.

Go.

like

I believe director at KPMG is equivalent to new senior manager at other firms.

like

Who hurt you Barracuda?

230 is fair for the market. KPMG is also playing "catch up" when it relates to recruiting junior level staff so expect to be doing that type of work initially until they onboard new hires.

like

You’re being paid at the high end for an SM by KPMG. Director is SM at KPMG. What’s your YOE?

like

That KPMG offer is exceptional for that YOE

You won’t make 230 at Pdub until you are most likely a second year Director. Take the money and run. Rumor is that our adjustments are only really going to be noticeable for A/SA

like

230K is low

Take the role is what you care about is the title

What city are you in? Do you have an MBA? SM1 will not exceed $200, best case, with comp adjustments.

Houston!

What group at KPMG?

Their equivalent of the deals team

Just accept the offer and move

Yeah, that’s a good offer.

That’s a good offer. I don’t see any reason for you to turn it down unless if you have multiple senior partners here that will support you for the next few years and willing to bend over backwards to get you promoted…otherwise you’re sacrificing a sure thing for a maybe.

Exit now. Even first year Director won’t match they salary. Best of luck.

I’m in my final year of school and will have a B.S. in Information Systems & Business Analytics. Is this a good offer? Or should I look elsewhere?

Other than citizenship, are there any other benefits of having a baby in the US vs in India? My wife and I may not be settling in the US, depending on what we decide over time. With that in mind, my wife is siding towards having the baby in India. When I checked online, I don’t really see any benefit except for the citizenship. Any inputs appreciated :)
