I know that people with depression and PTSD aren't allowed to join the military, but what happens if someone is diagnosed once they're already in?

They are given up to one year to seek treatment and recover, however if recovery is not achieved, they are formally recommended for a medical separation or retirement.

Depending on the severity of the condition, you can push for the medboard. However, plenty of people get mental health treatment and stay in of the symptoms are manageable.

like

You go to mental health and try and get better. If you can then great! If not you might get discharged. Tbh tho your VA claim will be worth more than your pay as an E-3 so I wouldn’t let that scare you too much.

While getting discharged might feel scary or depressing in and of itself, this is right on the money. The vet claim from these diagnoses is substantial and you will be well taken care of

Based on the evaluations and the expertise of the doctors with the diagnoses. You can get medically retired.

If someone is already in the military and is then diagnosed with depression or PTSD, they are typically discharged from the military. The military doesn't have the resources to help those with mental health issues, so they are given medical discharge. I have a friend who was in the military and was diagnosed with PTSD while in service. He was medically discharged and is now receiving treatment and support through veteran services.

Ptsd isn’t something one usually‘recovers’ from Ans it’s not always a dischargeable thing. Those suggesting so are ill informed. One’s ability to navigate, mitigate and function in spite of traumas carried are the more determining factors.

I'm in the Navy. I was diagnosed with PTSD and anxiety in Nov 2021. I was put on LIMDU and got off the ship because they were going on deployment. I started therapy and meds and spent 6 months on limdu. I was fit for full duty at 6 months and got orders to a new command where I am today. I'm still taking meds, and I still have therapy every week. I'm lucky in that I have never had anyone treat me badly for my issues. I've had so many people (leaders and peers) that support me. Just because something happens doesn't mean you can't be in the military.

Whenever i have a big deadline, my body goes into a panic mode where my energy immediately goes to figuring out how I’ll get something done well and on time. Outwardly, I don’t seem stressed so no one notices but actually I usually feel like I have a cold: fatigue, headache, sore throat, sinus infection. When a task is done, i stop feeling like crap. It’s been like this since law school. Any tips on managing stress or moving towards doing good work without my body shutting down lol?

I’ve had a bad case of work anxiety ever since I started a new job ~7 months ago. The adjustment was ROUGH. I was making mistake after mistake. I powered through and somehow got glowing reviews at year end, with people saying I’ve moved past that point.

I’m convinced I’ve only tricked people and sooner or later they’re gonna catch on. I have extremely bad Sunday scaries, I’m always fighting down my anxiety whenever a new ask comes through. I don’t know what to do.

I know I’m not alone that people don’t want to return to the office. My ADHD and the open office just makes working from the office a nightmare and I’m feeling really nervous and kind of resentful.

Any women here with lean PCOS? I do not ovulate on my own (metformin regulated my periods but I still don’t ovulate) and am moving from three cycles of Clomid/IUI to IVF soon. No other issues have been found other than my PCOS (HSG shows tubes open). Curious about your experiences. And the reason I mentioned lean PCOS is because it seems for others with PCOS part of the fertility path is diet/exercise/weight loss but I am already very tiny.
