I’d strongly recommend that you take a 3 month prep course. Rice, NYU and Villanova both offer prep courses, along with official SHRM study guides. I took the Rice prep class, and that was all I needed to pass!
I took the SHRM-SCP this past window and passed the first time. I took a prep course through Northwestern. I did not like the course. It's seems common for the instructors to just read the slides provided to them by SHRM as we were limited on time and had a lot of material to cover. We also immediately shifted to zoom sessions due to covid instead of any in-person sessions. I don't think the instructor was familiar with zoom and never even turned on his camera so it was easy not to be as engaged for each weekly 3.5 hour class. My local SHRM put together a study group which I think was great! We initially chose to meet via zoom two times a week for an hour each and ended up adding an additional hour session. People dropped off as they took the test. It was a great way to have an engaging and supportive learning group! I've also heard good things about HR Jetpack and also Mometrix from a previous comment in this group. Reading the SHRM books is also helpful. A lot of it depends on what your preference it.
I obtained my PHR through HRCI. I used a really great platform called BenchPrep HR. They provided study material, flash cards, quizzes and tests. I made my own flash cards and notes and studied for about 4 months. Quizlet was an outlet that I used to for tests. It takes a lot of time and dedication to studying. Good luck!
I am an HRCI advocate. I used David Siler for both my PHR and SPHR.
