I recently quit my job. My VP was a narcissist and never really looked out for my upward progression even though he said he was my sponsor. Whenever I would do a solid job, he would always down play it or give the mid-level mgr credit even though other people / management acknowledged it. But we still got along. When I gave my two week notice, I did not meet up or talk to him (I cancelled a good bye 1-on-1 b/c I was over it) - sent a short thank you email instead and ghosted. Was this justified?

Have you seen women wear ties and "masculine"-looking suits to work? Was it accepted by client and team? I've never worn a tie to work, but when I've worn clothing that had a more "masculine" fit either in grad school or some work environments, I've gotten comments and looks, or sometimes asked (or people gossiped) about my orientation. When I wear more "feminine"-looking clothing, I feel more more uncomfortable and awkward. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Conventional wisdom on current firm counter-offering when mentioning you have a few offers? I have an offer at a large firm in Miami. Current large firm has no office there but mentioned they can likely let me be there in a remote basis. BCG and a few other law blog sites have advised against accepting current firm counter-offers, e.g., likely to leave, not loyal, off partner track, etc., but would love to hear everyone’s thoughts.

How do I know Big-Law is not for me?

I am a first year who just started a couple of months ago and I am literally confused all the time. I did some small work for two partners and they loved it, so put me on new deals but the mid levels I am staffed with absolutely hate the work I do. One said the work I did was laughable. I felt bed because I spent over 25 hours on this. I wouldn’t be very bothered but the other Associates in my class are killing it. So I just feel dumb all the time.

Lawyer Couples:
I’m currently an associate (no kids) in a very busy corp group (think 50-60 billable weekly). My wife works significantly less (currently part time, 10-15, but hopefully will be full time soon). I find myself getting upset when asked to help with basic household things (trash, cooking etc.) when she’s been lounging around watching Netflix all day. Am I being reasonable or am I a misogynist? How do you deal with one person having significantly more free time than the other?

I’ve been practicing in traditional labor for about two years now (although about a decade of labor relations experience) but I’m trying to break into employee benefits law. Unfortunately I’m not being given much experience in benefits as I’m pretty typecast as a labor atty. Any advice on how I can go about getting employee benefit experience? My long term goal is to have benefits be my main area of practice.

Kind of a new distance runner here (completed my first half mara last month) and am usually run on treadmill for workouts during the week. I also wear an Apple Watch. Have noticed that my Apple Watch tends to say I’ve run a longer distance, at a faster speed, than treadmill. (It’s usually up to 0.5 miles off and 0.5mph off in speed). Anyone experience this? What is the average paralegal salary in NC for a commercial real estate law office? I’ve been with a great firm for the last 9 years but am starting to wonder if I’m being compensated fairly. The company is about 30 employees (mostly attorneys) but I work primary for 4 of the attorneys.

How do you know when it is time to move on. I am the only litigation paralegal billing over 2,500 a year consistently. Love the boss I work the most for but that person has grown distant. Staff reviews were supposed to be complete this week and no one has mentioned mine. Underpaid by about $30k per market value. Torn and confused.

Are any other paralegals struggling with billable hour requirements? I have 5 years of experience in corporate transactions, M&A, and real estate work, and have never had billable hour requirements. I'm in a new job now where I do and I'm nowhere near meeting them. I'm getting a lot more admin work than billable work, and it's stressing me out.

Paralegals: My firm is looking for a paralegal, and I see the job posting advertising the salary as $65-$75k, with benefits. Is this a good salary for a paralegal (Greater LA area)? I did it! I got an in-house Paralegal position after years of working and being burned out at different law firms. I was going to leave the legal field all together because I was so burned out and depressed, but I decided to give the field one more chance if I was able to go in-house. My boss (atty) is so disorganized! I’ve been with him 6 months and he’s having a hard time delegating, sharing info and managing deadlines. I’ve organized the caseload to manage the deadlines. He says he wants me to help with discovery but when I offer to start on one, he says he needs to do it. (Since he might have to present as evidence) When I give him deadlines and ask for the docs he says he’ll get to it. It’s a small 1 man firm, and I’m the first assistant besides his wife. Any advice?
