I mean, do you have other options?

Honestly it’s on them if they refused to give you a reasonable amount of time to consider other offers. I get why they did it but ultimately you can’t let their interests determine your future

Also liking the people you interview with… Not a terrible way to make a decision without any other information but honestly 50% of those people or more are going to be gone by the time you get there.
Firms also tend to have their nicest and most normal-seeming people do interviews so it’s not necessarily a great indicator that you’d fit in there.
It is better than nothing, and if you don’t interview with nice people that is actually a major negative— basically, if those are the nicest people they can come up with, yikes. But it doesn’t necessarily work the other way, and interviewing with nice people is not a guarantee that you’ll have a good experience. I’m mentioning this because I don’t want you to base your life choice was on something that can often be illusory/marketing.
Oh, also, as someone who does these interviews, no one is going to remember whether you come or not. I know you probably feel that you connected with them but honestly, it’s a very short, small, part of the job that tends to be forgotten very quickly. Just don’t feel like you’re obligated because your interviewers were nice
2027 is so far away. Base your decision on fit and growth opportunities. I expect every firm you’re interviewing has laid people off in the recent past. You’ll be fine.
What layoffs are you talking about?
What type of work are you interested in? Dechert is very good at some things and mediocre at others. They’ve got a very good structured finance practice.
is this something worth reneging over?
They switched to a pool system for all incoming first years. Pool system is mandatory for the first two years and divided into transactional and litigation. It's very demanding and incredibly unpopular

Typically assigned to one group (permanently or for a specific time period, like six months).
I’m at a firm with a pool system and hate it (as a 7th year). Juniors with zero interest in your practice, they don’t know anything, miserable experience for everyone.
What layoffs? Are you talking about the layoffs that happened few years ago when almost every firm did the same thing?
