Just found out I’m 7 weeks pregnant, and the nausea and fatigue are really hitting me hard. For those who’ve been through this, how did you manage to keep working without letting your coworkers know?

I did a terrible job on my project because I couldn’t balance the nausea/fatigue with the workload. I wish I would have told my direct supervisors at least.
My best advice is to tell your manager/lead on your project at least, and work when you can.
Mostly be kind to yourself and know that you get your energy back close to 12 weeks, so it won’t last forever!
Also, congratulations!

I didn't, I threw up too often.

Tell your manager (and HR especially if you're in a country/state where that gets you maternity protections) and ask them to keep it secret from the team.

Took it as easy as I could. Ask your dr about unisom to help with nausea, I also used nausea bands and always had nausea candy (ginger and preggy hard candies)/gum on hand for nausea.

2nd nausea bands. I couldn’t do the candies. 🤢

Suffering in silence 🙃

If it is really bad, get an anti-nausea medicine from your doctor. That didn’t really help me so I ended up telling my manager at 8 weeks I was having severe nausea due to being pregnant. He was super understanding, allowed me to have flexible hours if I needed them, and I just let him know when I was ready to tell the rest of the team.

I'm a US citizen living abroad I applied almost 11 months ago for my spouse. Married for years, kid. I wait and wait. It seems this will take 2 years, maybe more. I feel trapped. On one side the US system demands I work and domicile in US, the other side says families should be prioritized to stay together. My spouse has had enough of the process. I feel trapped abroad and locked in a dysfunctional system. We're just in limbo, it's depressing

Is anyone concerned the push for sexual equality in pay without accordant leveling of parental leave is gonna backfire?

Here’s a hypothetical:

A company has 2 candidates, aged 25-30, equal in every respect save one’s a man the other’s a woman. Maybe the woman is a slightly better candidate overall. They’d have equal comp.

Company considers the woman a riskier bet due to possibility she’ll take maternity leave — and considers the man less risky for his ineligibility to take as much leave. 🤷

Perspective: monogamy is anti-human nature; in this era where each parent could raise a kid independently, marriage tends to be a shackle on many aspects of life. We live once, why does society expect us to live with 1 person for 60+ years? No wonder divorce rates are through the roof!

Need advice. Have some credit card debt that I’ve been working to pay off. Have made progress but want to lower it quickly. We have dual income, with a house (~$300k in equity), 1 kid and 1 on the way. I’ve looked into debt consolidation via HELOC but also have ~$80k in vested equity in my company that I haven’t touched. Get equity refreshes every year. Would it be smarter to cash out $15k-$20k of that to pay debt vs. a HELOC at ~5% given that will still require mthly payments
